Eddy,
Travel time to Dubbo
Did you take into account in your google direction search the dozen or so stops that your Trailerbus would have to detour to in order to match the stopping pattern of a Dubbo XPT?
I did!
The journey depicted and entered by you clearly shows no deviation from the major roads - it shows no deviation to the crowded streets of Strathfield, or having to navigate the tight s-bends at Parramatta station, nor the significant detours to reach Penrith and Blacktown stations.
The deviation to/from the highway to Lithgow station takes a total about 10 minutes.
The deviation to Millthorpe is about 20 minutes in total.
The bus stop at Orange station isn't long enough to accommodate the length of your TrailerBus (it would block a crossing).
The estimated journey time "calling" at all stations (I did not include the two "a" stops) was calculated at 6h 52m as opposed to your quoted XPT journey time of 6hrs 30 minutes.
The XPT
The XPT to/from Dubbo consists of (I believe) 5 carriages (I will proudly accept my error if this is found to be incorrect).
According to
transport info the consist consists of a variety of carriages (some 27 seats for first class, 48 for the buffet carriage, and 68 for the saloon carriage).
Lets imagine a consist of 1 x first class (27 passengers), 1 x buffet (48 passengers) and 3 saloons (3 x 68) - approximately 275 if my maths is any good.
To accommodate the same number of passengers you would need to provide 4 Trailerbuses.
Imagine the scene at Parramatta interchange when 4 Trailerbuses arrive at the same time to collect passengers.
Toilet
Most people would need to stop even though there would be a toilet on board
. - your comment yesterday Monday 18 December.
Does this mean that the Trailerbus has a toilet - I ask this because your drawings do not show a toilet.
If it now has a toilet then this can only be used by passengers on which ever level it is located on.
You would know of course that it is illegal in NSW for passengers to stand on the top deck of a double decker unless they are entering or exiting the bus, so if they are on the top deck and want to use the toilet (which is located on the lower deck, for example ) they will have to wait till the next scheduled stop.
Luggage
Where is luggage to be stored on the Trailerbus?
Accessible transports
So as it can take bikes and mobility scooters it must replace the old XPT and allow freight trains free run.
Your quote is flawed. You say that Trailerbus can take mobility scooters however it will never be approved to do so in its current format - buses must by law have space for 2 wheelchairs - your Trailerbus does not.
The XPT also takes bikes.
