Interesting list of changes. I'm so used to seeing a dozen instances of 'trips withdrawn due to poor patronage' whenever one of these pops up, but this time around it's almost entirely additional trips, and four new routes. Quite refreshing to see!

Considering the present (and supposedly 'pro public transport') Government aren't funding extra bus services, is it really shocking? A lot of the feeder network is too station-centric to ever warrant more than hourly frequency (Aubin Grove feeders, 503-505 and numerous others spring to mind).

I would love to see more areas have more frequent bus services. Unfortunately, we keep building suburbia further and further into the middle of nowhere where there is very little to attract patronage, or where activity generators don't fit in with the bus network (i.e. buses are north-south between train stations and shops, healthcare etc are east or west from the suburbs, if that makes sense).

Will there be cross deployment of resources for 233/523?

Not sure if Beckenham does much (if any) Cockburn work.

A lot of late-night trips down there are done by Volvos, but without wrote knowledge of what bus belongs where, I cannot say what depot they're from (obviously not Southern River! 😂). If all three Swan depots do those feeders from Cockburn, then I'd say that would continue - my guess would be the same if it's only CV & SR.

For the record I can't say I've ever seen a Beckenham bus on regular route running at Cockburn. No idea if the 233 would be a primarily-SR or CV run, tbh.

I find it somewhat disappointing that the chosen option for route 233 in Piara Waters was the direct Armadale Rd option, rather than the Greywacke/Aspiri/Fanshawe option. Given that Armadale Rd is practically highway-grade through Piara Waters, there's no chance for a bus stop in that area. It means that the 233, although in the Piara Waters area, has limited usefulness there, as there are no stops to service the southern section of Piara Waters, leaving them service-less.

Even if you could place a stop on Armadale Road, it would be a nightmare crossing that section, meaning some sort of crossing (underpass or bridge) would be needed for extra cost, whereas the Greywacke/Aspiri/Fanshawe route would've allowed around 3 stops either direction without any additional infrastructure required.

When Armadale Road was made into the road it currently is, there were bus stops put in before any services were announced to travel down there (not that you can tell by Google Maps). From memory, there are 3 bays either side - 1 between Nicholson and Rossiter, 1 for Rossiter (pretty sure a path has been built so you can cross the road), and 1 just before/just after Wright Rd.

While I agree that it would make sense to have it go through Greywacke/Aspiri/Fanshawe, as someone who used the 519 when it deviated through there, I found it was rather tight for a bus to go through (due to cars being parked on the sides of the road), and noted this when I responded to the survey about the route.

Cheers!

As some of you have already know, there will be disruptions to the Fremantle Line between 5th February and 5th April to facilitate installation of track infrastructure for the new Airport Line which is set to start operations later this year.

Transperth is also operating a new School Special 700 bus service that are catered for school students and operates between Fremantle and Shenton
Park stations.

Transperth wrote: Why are no train replacement buses operating?
Train replacement buses only operate when trains services are cancelled. Other than the three weekend closures during this disruption, trains will be operating and so replacement buses are not required. Furthermore, Transperth do not have sufficient buses to supplement all lost capacity between Showgrounds and Fremantle Stations without significant disruption to existing timetabled operations. Some passengers might find during the disruption period that a timetabled bus service may be a more convenient option while trains are running a reduced frequency.
My two cents... I think it's crazy that they're reducing frequency on half a line to one train every 30 minutes (including during peak) and aren't offering any sort of extra/supplemental bus services to help offset the lost capacity.

This closure has clearly been in the works for a very long time, but during that time they've been withdrawing NHs like there's no tomorrow... if 'insufficient buses' is the reasoning then surely it would have made sense to hold back a dozen NHs to help supplement the trains in peak?

Also noteworthy the disruption information doesn't list the Circle Route as a potential alternative to the train - it's a bit more practical than waiting an hour for a 103 or 107...

There will be no change to the route travelled and there will be no changes to the timetable.

Route 284 - Route Change
Mon 22 Feb
From Monday 22 February, Route 284 will be extended to service Wright St at Belmont Forum.

Route 284 will continue to service the existing Belmont Forum stops on Fulham St.

The extension to Wright St improves the option for passengers to transfer to and from other Transperth bus services.
Interestingly the timetable map still shows the extension to Morrison St, even though there are no longer any extensions.

Just saw from the TransRegional website there's some time changes for TransBusselton services.

Current times (23/04/2017)

New times (31/01/2021)

Also is that the new routes proposal by TransGoldfields? (Routes 865 and 866)

From Monday 22 February, Route 249 will be renumbered to display Route 219.

Timetables changed (only changed/added routes listed):

Bus 17 233 518 519
(New route 233)
Bus 31 102 107
Just saw from the Transperth website recently, looks like the new Bus Timetable 31 from 7/2/2021 looks like identical so far, and the new Bus Timetable 17 from 14/2/2021 only fixes the text alignment on its cover.

Love that TransPerth website update - they don't actually bother mentioning where route 249/219 actually goes.

It's like a secret society - if you need to ask you don't need to know.

The change marks a reuse of an old and very historic number which used to be the Albany Hwy Perth - Armadale bus (like when the Perth bus network was like Adelaide's or Brisbane's and paralleled trains, even to outer suburbs). From memory the old 219 was as frequent as every 20 min off-peak BE (before electrification).

That continues in greatly diminished form as the 220 daytime mostly every 60 min. Train services have generally improved to a 15 min 7 day service, though parts of the highway are a bit far from stations, hence the continued need for some sort of bus service.

Somewhere along the line a very short short working of the 220, serving only its very southern bit, got the illogical number of 249. The purpose of that shortworking was to provide a combined 30 minute service on weekdays with the main route. This change corrects that anomaly, giving it a sequential route number easier to look up etc (Transperth being more obsessive about those things than we in Melbourne, whose messy 600/922/923 turns 19 this year, has been). Melbourne though rarely gives routes that are shortworkings unique numbers now - 478/479 being the sole surviving example.
