Re: STA Observations 2021
STA Fleet Lists have now been updated to show all the most recent changes in the East.
15 L113s left at Randwick and 10 B10s left at Waverley. Will be interesting to see what the 3121-3130 (the electrics) end up replacing.

Re: STA Observations 2021
With regard to the Fleet Lists, is there a reason why, in the Individual Bus Information section, the recent changes part of the page quite often does not record the actual changes?
The reader is generally left to guess what the changes actually were.

Re: STA Observations 2021
I had also noticed this yesterday.
I just noticed that this also happened with the Region 8 Keolis Downer changes back in October. In both cases a there were a lot of changes which need to be input individually for each bus if using the update script. I know because I wrote the software back in 2007.
I suspect that for these changes the normal script was not used but the changes were made by editing the text file direct so that they can all be made in the one edit but in such cases it is not possible to add the reasons. I will try and confirm that this is what has been happening.

Re: STA Observations 2021
Given that plenty of B10BLEs were retired after the recent timetable change and not used to replace older L113s, appears there isn't a fleet average problem in region 9. The 10 Custom Denning electrics are going to Waverley...seems pretty obvious what will happen. Potentially the B10BLEs could move to region 6 (who also operate them) to replace its older L113s, but that it hasn't happened so far, a one way trip to Sims Metal would appear most likely.J_Busworth wrote: ↑15 L113s left at Randwick and 10 B10s left at Waverley. Re: STA Observations 2021
But there are L113s turning 26 in a matter of weeks, so they'll be gone soon enough.
Re: STA Observations 2021
Special event route X24 is in operation once again for the Sydney to Hobart Yacht Race.
I wonder if this route number will remain as is and continue to exist as an anomaly? Maybe this route caught TfNSWby surprise?
The service cannot be renumbered to 324X due to the different stopping pattern and different terminus in the Sydney CBD. Maybe renumber the service to 323X as the original route 323 was the permanent replacement of the tram from City (Erskine St) to Watsons Bay which is the same as the current route 324.
The only other remaining route (special event) with the prefix of 'X' that needs to be renumbered is the Region 6 route X26, this can easily be renumbered to 526X.

There is already a 323 service on a different route. 322 has some past history in the Vaucluse area and is vacantStu wrote: ↑Fri Dec 24, 2021 2:08 am Special event route X24 is in operation once again for the Sydney to Hobart Yacht Race.

May be easier to recycle an existing, unused number than set up a new one, and X24 is as sensible as any for a one-off service.Stu wrote: ↑Special event route X24 is in operation once again for the Sydney to Hobart Yacht Race.

Re: STA Observations 2021
Wouldn't the X24 be better going CQ to the CYCA then? And why all the way to Watson's Bay?
Still a fair hike from Edgecliff or the stop on NSH Rd

Re: STA Observations 2021
Not really, because no-one would want to go the CYCA. The CYCA is where the boats are moored, but there is no view of the race to be had from there. The main spectator viewing points are in and around Vaucluse and Watsons Bay, hence why the specials go there.

Re: STA Observations 2021
I can understand why on the 26th they might need additional services to Watson's Bay. But not on the 24th.
Far more traffic city-CYCA over the days leading up the boat race as competitors get ready.

Re: STA Observations 2021
The X24 is only running on the 26th. Anybody turning up at the CYCA in anything less than a Range Rover would probably be turned away. Don't think CYCA members do public transport.

That link shows it as operating from 20th to 27th December but I agree with the comment about competitors using public transport,

Re: STA Observations 2021
While you might be right with your average CYCA member there are a lot of sailors (including 2-person boats this year) that are far more salt of the earth or ocean.Linto63 wrote: Anybody turning up at the CYCA in anything less than a Range Rover would probably be turned away. Re: STA Observations 2021
Shows as a ''Sundays & Public Holidays'' timetable, so wouldn't have operated 20th - 24th when the weekday timetable was operated. Only appears on the journey planner on the 26th and not the 25th or 27th which both will have Sunday timetables in operation.
Transport Info also confirms the running of extra services on the 26th without mentioning the X24 by number.

Re: STA Observations 2021
The route 323 has more in common with the 324 & X24 compared to route 322 however route 322 did have and extended service to Watsons Bay on Sunday between 1985 & 1989.boronia wrote: ↑Fri Dec 24, 2021 3:42 pmThere is already a 323 service on a different route. 322 has some past history in the Vaucluse area and is vacantStu wrote: ↑Fri Dec 24, 2021 2:08 am Special event route X24 is in operation once again for the Sydney to Hobart Yacht Race.

Maybe it is best just to leave the X24 as it is. Also leave the X26 as it is considering that it's route path is completely different to route 526.
Route X26 was originally a variation of the Sydney Olympic Park special event route 4, the drivers shift displayed route 4z. The 'z' was a scheduling procedure used to identify school day variations (diversion, extension, commence or terminate) of regular timetabled routes (w, x, y or z).

Re: STA Observations 2021
Alternatively, why run an X24 at all? It would be a lot simpler for passengers if they just ran more 324's on the day, and probably more useful too. They probably wouldn't even be needed (if at all) from the city, but instead only from Edgecliff Interchange.
I'd wager the reason the X24 is running is because it ran before, and someone has simply done a cut and paste of previous years. Similarly, why does it run from Circular Quay, instead of having common stops with the 324/5 in the city? Probably because that's what it has done before, and no one updated it when the 324/5 were altered in the CBD some years ago.
It's not been unusual for STA to accidentally resurrect defunct routes for special event services (or to not incorporate recent route changes), presumably because someone just copied and pasted last year's special event plan.

STA 3122 ST and 3123 ST (Custom Denning Elements) Now in Service, rode 3122 this afternoon from St James to Circular Quay on the 333, no opal machines onboard 3122 yet so the bus can't be tracked using real time trip trackers.

Yes got a photo of it and onboard video, I'll likely upload the video after I return from my Holidays.
