I wonder if this was why they didn't retain the Outer South area. Could be they were already the front runner for the rail so were deliberately not given the bus.

I doubt it: Torrens got the trams but weren’t penalised. They still kept all the other contract areas they had and also got outer north as well as the trams.

So it is not all to go back in 2025.Keolis Downer and the Government of South Australia Reach Milestone Agreement
The South Australian Government and Keolis Downer have reached an agreement which paves the way for the progressive return of the operation of the Adelaide Metro Passenger Rail Network (AMPRN) to public hands.
The agreement, which was signed today, sets the key principles under which the management of operations will be transferred to government in January 2025. This agreement is not reflective of the performance of Keolis Downer Adelaide (KDA) under its existing rail contract. It is recognised that KDA has been performing well since taking over the network.
KDA will continue to deliver asset management and maintenance for the AMPRN and customer services into the future.
Keolis Downer and the South Australian Government have partnered collaboratively since the start of operations of the rail services on 31 January 2021. This partnership will continue in a different form which will aim to maintain a high-performing network while delivering benefits to the local community.
Keolis Downer CEO, Julien Dehornoy, said: “As a public transport operator, our objective will always be to partner with governments to provide services that are safe, performant and deliver a positive passenger experience. Our people are at the heart of the successful delivery of transport services, and we will ensure they are supported as we enter this new partnership.”
This agreement outlines the principles for:
Keolis Downer Adelaide to return operational functions for drivers, operations control, network and timetable planning to Government by 31 January 2025.
The delivery of customer service and security management functions to remain with Keolis Downer returning to Government control in June 2027.
Maintenance of fleet and infrastructure to continue to be managed by Keolis Downer Adelaide to 2035.
Keolis Downer Adelaide to continue to provide expertise to Government around future innovation opportunities for customer services and the broader rail network.

Also covers Torrens Transit and the trams. This suggests, without detail, that there's some sweetener with the buses:

That’s Torrens Connect who operate the trams. There will be no changes to bus service contracts.tonyp wrote: ↑Tue Apr 04, 2023 1:17 pm Also covers Torrens Transit and the trams. This suggests, without detail, that there's some sweetener with the buses:

Possibly the government will “compensate” KD when regional bus contracts are awarded - although the 10 year rail maintenance contract awarded to KD (of which the government won’t release the dollar amount to be paid) suggests otherwise.

As indicated i the Premier's media release the tram contract is with Torrens Connect, which is a joint venture between John Holland, UGL and Transit Systems. Torrens Transit is a subsidiary of Transit Systems and has several of the bus contracts in Adelaide.

Swan Transit got the trams and Outer South as a combined package.
Meanwhile, Path Transit lost 2 packages, 1 to Swan Transit and the other to Busways. Now there are 3 bus operators in Adelaide.

“Swan Transit” and “Path Transit” do not, and have never held any contracts in Adelaide. While they may have the same parent company as Torrens Transit and Southlink respectively, legally and operationally they are completely different entities.Enviro 500 wrote: ↑Tue Apr 04, 2023 11:43 pm Swan Transit got the trams and Outer South as a combined package.

Torrens Connect (the joint venture as described above) won the North-South contract, which includes bus and tram services. The Outer South contract was won by Busways SA, not Torrens or any affiliates.

The North-South contract will remain exactly the same, minus tram services. This is how it was before 2020.Enviro 500 wrote: ↑Wed Apr 05, 2023 5:03 pm With tram operations returning to government control what will happen to the North-South package?
