Surfside Buslines

Post by 385BUZ »

Hi,

Thourght I’d create a topic for surfside buslines, like the one for Hornibrook. If we make any sightings, have any questions etc.

Can anyone identify these buses? Seen on google street view. They have a green front unlike the standard black front.

Hi All,

Does anyone know what routes surf side runs? Preferably a list? I’ve seen a few lists on this forum and since I live on the Gold Coast, I thought I’d request what routes surf side runs.

Thanks heaps :D

No rear door on the Optimus... This is a city bus FFS, not a long distance regional coach. Get with the program

How slack! Does anyone know why they acually ordered Volgrens anyway? And what the ratio of volgrens to bustechs there will be in the order of 15?

901 is in Surfside livery so obviously intended for Tweed services. Single door is fine for regional services.

They might be used for more school services instead sice they are seatbelted.

Bustech doesnt do seatbelted low floor buses so I suppose that's why they ended up with volgrens!

If they did order Volgrens with centre doors in the future, all doors would be stepless which is a huge benefit for passengers and more efficient for loading and unloading. The Bustechs with their high floor and stairs are a curse. Thank goodness the new owners are at least starting to away from them.

Forgot to mention - at Ernest, I saw a few deckers repainted in the updated TransLink livery with green bumpers rather than the old black. You can request me to send you a picture.

In NSW, there is now a requirement for all school buses in rural and regional areas to be fitted with seatbelts, with is why I imagine Surfside has ended up with the Volgrens. If Bustech can't do low floor buses with seatbelts, I honestly wouldn't expect to see anymore Bustechs ordered for the NSW operation.

You see though,

Firstly, I wouldn’t class it a regional/rural area as the suburbs it operates in are basically southern suburbs in the Gold Coast - it’s not really ‘rural’

Secondly, they operate quite a number of urban routes in NSW which is their main role in the Tweed River region - which don’t require seatbelts. Plus the Tweed Heads depot is also used for a significant number of Queensland Routes as well.

So I honestly can’t see the Bustechs going away anytime soon, unless of course they decide to permanently change to another body builder.

Tweed Heads is a regional area. Thew new buses with seatbelts have obviously been delivered to be capable of doing school and route services. Running separate fleets is duplication and running coaches does not satisfy low entry requirements.

I heard today, A new 10 electric buses will be builded by Bustech, Trial will start from route 777 start next year from the Gold Coast bulletins Newspaper.
THE State Government will build and test electric buses on the Gold Coast as part of a $23 billion election commitment.

Burleigh Heads company Bustech will build 10 electric buses under the deal, the first of which will be trialled in 2021 on the 777 route, which runs from Broadbeach to Gold Coast Airport and will eventually be replaced by the light rail’s third and fourth stages.

The trial will cost $1 million over a 12-month period.

Main Roads Minister Mark Bailey said Labor would fund construction of the buses, which will also be trialled in Logan.

Mr Bailey said the proposal would create 150 jobs.

“We have built light rail, we are rolling out the longest electric vehicle super highway in the world, and from next year locals will build and ride electric buses that will be able to travel up to 300km from a single charge,” he said.

“It is part of a $23 billion commitment by the Palaszczuk Government to supercharge roads, public transport and jobs.”

Premier Annastacia Palaszczuk said the project was part of a plan to fire up the state’s manufacturing sector.

“We are growing Queensland’s advanced manufacturing base, building on industries like defence manufacturing with Rheinmetall and aerospace manufacturing with Boeing,” the Premier said.

The Gold Coast City Council is already moving ahead with its own $100 million plans for electric buses which will connect the light rail’s coastal route to Nerang and Robina via Metricon and Cbus stadiums.

The election commitment has been welcomed by public transport groups including the Queensland Bus Industry Council.

Council executive director David Tape said: “Having more electric and greener bus fleets is important as well as ongoing investment and support for our vital industry.”

Surfside bus co-chief executive Adam Begg said it was a significant boost for the Gold Coast’s economy.

“This is a fantastic outcome for regular Gold Coast commuters and tourists alike, who will be among the first to experience the benefits of cleaner, greener buses with quieter, smoother operation,” he said.

“It will change the way people think about public buses and strengthen the Gold Coast’s reputation as a progressive, forward-thinking city.”

Will it be the bus partnered with Ebusco, with no prototype yet built, or the ZDI that still hasn't got into service five years after being developed, presumably due to some fundamental issue? It's a bit hard to conceive either running in revenue service by 2021.

That's supposed to be pitched at repowering existing buses, but you never know.
