Re: Sydney bus "mishap" M5
Does anybody know who owns the bus?
it appears to be a two door unit with some sort of airconditioner or similar on the roof.
I have a suspicion (based purely on what's in the video) that it may belong to an inner west operator.

Not a good look , looks like they have taken the exit , then crossed over to get back on M5 , but looks like all they needed to do was continue down the exit lane and merge back onto the M5 entry lane.

I'm going to guess either Busways or Telfords. I think it might be time for that bus driver to hang up his keys for good...stajourneyman wrote:Does anybody know who owns the bus?

See this happen all the time (not buses) in the maze called the Western Distributor. People taking an exit, even indicating, then changing their mind at the last minute.CCCC wrote:Not a good look , looks like they have taken the exit , then crossed over to get back on M5 , but looks like all they needed to do was continue down the exit lane and merge back onto the M5 entry lane.
Luckily the truck driver slammed on the skids in time. Miraculous that it didn't tip over. Perhaps the traffic wasn't moving that quick.
The CCTV footage starts a bit late, but pretty sure that's what's happened.
Anyone any idea where this is, I tried Google Maps but can't quite work out where it happened.
Re: Sydney bus "mishap" M5
Looks like he mistook the entry to the M% office/car park for an exit. As stated above, if he'd continued, there is a slip lane for re-entering traffic, ahead.

Bus Operator inspected following near-miss on M5
from NSW Police Media website
"Officers from the Joint Traffic Task Force today inspected a number of buses at a location in Strathfield South following a near-miss on the M5 Motorway.
About 10am today (Friday 16 June 2017), officers conducted a safety audit of seven buses belonging to the company and identified a number of defects.
Two buses were grounded due to defective seatbelts and five were issued with minor defects for loose seats, seatbelts not retracting, seats with exposed metal and exposed wiring in a coach toilet.
The operation came in response to an incident on Thursday 1 June 2017 between a passenger bus and a semi-trailer which jack-knifed in an attempt to avoid a serious crash with the bus.
Police also issued a number of infringement notices to the company for failing to return registration plates for buses with expired registration.
Assistant Commissioner Michael Corboy of the state’s Traffic & Highway Patrol Command said Joint Traffic Task Force operations are run to ensure the safety of all road users.
"Operation Jack Knife was initiated to that serious near-miss on the M5 which could have ended much worse.
“Bus and heavy vehicle operators can expect us to come knocking at any time to ensure safety standards are being met.
“Our duty is to keep the public safe on all roads, without risking their lives or the lives of their loved ones,” Assistant Commissioner Corboy said"

Re: Sydney bus "mishap" M5
This incident had nothing to do with the condition of the bus involved.
I wonder if they did an "audit" of the drivers?

Presumably they had their media buddies in tow so that they could emerge from the premises, beat their chests, then rush home to watch themselves on the 6.00pm news!
Re: Sydney bus "mishap" M5
It appears to be standard procedure to raid an operator after a heavy vehicle incident, regardless of the cause of the incident. Busways were targeted after a driver who transitioned from Westbus nodded off after puffing on his 'special' pipe and ended up in a house. Only problem was they couldn't find any big problems so they started pulling over trucks and taxis and rolled them into the figures for the raids
Does anyone actually know who the operator involved is?

Yes, and I don't have a problem with per se.
It's just that they are primarily doing for media attention.
It's almost as though they are breathlessly sitting there waiting for the next opportunity to jump ...so as to be seen to be doing something .....YICK !!!
