Great shots, i like the orange livery, the NR class locos would of been new back then
TRAINS - LOVE the POWER and SOUND
Re: Trains in WA, 1998
Gosh, everyone I know detested that horrid orange livery! Replaced a lovely green with classy red sash. Each to their own I guess.
Classic shots as usual Mr Inspector. I'm enjoying your return to frequent photo posts. Thank you.

I agree with Herbert regarding the orange livery, but it evokes good memories for me, a bit like sitting in an old O305 or a PR100.2 on Albany Hwy, stuck behind a cattle truck....(childhood memories....)
I think the best Westrail livery was the predominately blue with the Kangaroo Paw, that was the best!
Cheers!

Death is the solution to all problems. No man - no problem.
Re: Trains in WA, 1998
I'm with you Herb but now that Westrail is dead and gone, I miss the orange loco's as well as the dark green livery of my childhood, still sends a shiver down my spine when I think of the Napier st Cottesloe pedestrian crossing where as a child I would stand and wait for all sorts of Diesel powered stock go past...aah memories
Sad sad days with seas and seas of silver sh!t

Great shots Inspector. Is it just me, or have the Westrail locos always looked rather dirty?

From Memory, there are 4 locos in the red striped livery. They are operated by Hotham Valley Tourist Railway in Dwellingup. 1 is a Xa classed loco, while the other 3 are C classed locos.
Hope this helps about which locos are in service with the Red striped livery.
Cheers!

Re: Trains in WA, 1998
Wow, I just found out that the ADK's made their Perth debut in 1968! I was under the impression that they were released in the same era as the ADL / ADC's (80s) with their fluted stainless steel exteriors.. so the ADK's living on in Auckland are about to celebrate their 44th birthday if they have not already, pretty impressive! ComEng never did things in half measures though. I could see the A sets easily matching that with an appropriate refurb program somewhere along the way, but the way it's going they'll probably be all displaced by the incoming B (or whatever supercedes them) sets in the next 10 - 15 years.
As for me, give me liberty, or give me death!
