Both incorrect.
Clue: Trams could be seen running down this street till the 1960's.

I presume then that you're not referring to the Victorian Railways line from St Kilda to Brighton which closed on 28th February 1959.

Hence my guess of Mitford St is probably a waste of time...

I think I might have it - Wellington Street, St Kilda? My mother-in-law lived in St Kilda and remembers tram tracks being removed in that street..
