AEC Decker wrote:The yellow AEC Decker OCV 759 with APEX on it, was a mobile kitchen and was for sale near Miranda in the late 80s or early 90s. I took it for a test drive and mechanically it was worn out. I can't remember its' DGT number, but it was an early one with the mushroom accelerator.

Does anyone know its' DGT number ?
Yes, 2455.

Have been thinking of a few missing 'wide desto' AEC deckers.
Could it be 2356 :?: :?

This photo was taken in December 1990 , and my memory has recovered enough for me to say that this photo was taken in Campbelltown, and i found both this and the white Vic plates Leyland when I was visiting car lots looking to buy a car - both probably near Minto car sales where i actually bought a car and returned on a Monday with cash from the bank and my camera to photograph these 2 buses

I think this is a possible candidate for the Kunanurra DD even though it is listed as being scrapped in Greg Travers book.
MO 3681 later MO 4681 then m/o 5432

Thanks red and cream but we need a more recent shot than that to solve. Vexing thing is that tell tale little handle under the windscreen.5432 doesn't seem to have it. No 8 had a rubbered in desto like a DGT Newcastle Leyland so its not that. No 7 seems to be it

No. 7 doesnt appear to have a handle either, Rover changed some fleetnumbers around so it could be the No. 3 in my post.

Why not email these photos to the local newspaper in Kununurra and let them investigate this iconic local vehicle that a pioneer drove accross the desert at 30mph about 30 years ago? If they start by looking where I said I saw it either it is still there or a neighbour will know where it went....

The checkered Leyland is 2325 and it is still in a yard at Campbelltown today with an AEC (could be 2379)

No! The A.E.C. with 2325 is 2079 at Campbeltown. Both rather sad.

Actually in the 1978 photo of 2378 that I have when it was running for Top Deck as ISA526 (Interstate plates) it was showing "727" in the number box. Maybe the new owner liked the idea of aircraft and decided that a "747" would be more powerful :!:

Unfortunately the Top Deck Travel bus is still not entirely convincing, but the aircraft numbers seem to establish a connection. The dent over the top of the number box appears to be the same but is a litle too indistinct to claim that it is identical. If the Kununnurra bus, is in fact 2378, it appears to have had a lot of refurbishment work, including the retro headlights. A hard one to call but I think it is worth at least another 1,000 posts to solve

2378, 2379. I think they were Waverley Depot at some in their life with the DGT. :D

Keep AEC Decker photos coming, but more of the air door variety please. :D

Yes and also a very early withdrawal. (December, 1970) probably due to it being an earlier overhaul (March, 1965).
