One for the Bedford Enthusiasts

Post by LocoLes »

Some Bedford Memories from yesteryear..... Some were converted into motorhomes, one became a works bus with STA, the Wright's Tourist Service SB3 was photographed paused for refreshments at Old Noarlunga while operating a day tour to Victor Harbor in 1968 [I was a passenger :| ] another VAM was parked at West Lakes and lastly, the VAM with fleet number 33 was probably a Athol Hedges body, parked at Mile End, SA.

Image859, a CAC 7SB motorhome with a trailer attached was for sale.
Image862, a Lawton bodied SB3, another motorhome.
Image867, a Freighter-SA VAM still with a coach but no fleet markings.
Image865, Athol Hedges? VAM only bearing fleet number 33.
Image866, ex Transway Elizabeth #8408 became a works bus. [parked beside railway @ Hove].
Image863, Freighter Lawton SB3 on Day Tour for Wright's Tourist Service.

For Bedford lovers, I will be posting some under VIC photo section shortly. :|

[Captions corrected on 22Feb17 as result of additional info from members for photos 3 and 4]

Nice photos LocoLes.

Photo 2 is a smooth looking vehicle.Barely a ripple in the panels.

The STA bus was their crew bus. They'd all get in and go out to a site.Their lunch room was in there.

I remember the Wright's bus.I saw that out and about at the time.

My old HCVA fleet list says 33 (with Brisbane Waters) was former MO 8404, Bedford Vam, Hedges of January 1969 build, B63F - new to Moree operator as MO 4621.

Thanks Centralian & Bedford-29 Chris, another one solved. :) I never saw it again, it may have been temporarily parked at Mile End.

Hi Denv12,
The International Golden Fleece fuel tanker [in the photo] was the typical fuel tanker of the day. And do you remember the Golden Fleece Road Houses of the 1960's ? Plenty on your plate and the steaks and mixed grills were tops. G F Road Houses were often the only place to obtain a late meal back then.
Cheers, Loco Les

Hi Loco Les.
Brings back memories. I remember that group of shops in the photo. Loved The GF roadhouse.Always good food. Those were the days.
Those trucks like the international, there would have been a few badged versions of that body. The Dodge and the international trucks.
I started this post catering for old roadhouses.

The International is an AA184 or AA180 model IIRC.
The Bedford VAM70 with an Ansair body in the third photo was owned by C.M.& H.A.Taylor of South Plympton, being acquired from Organs of Kyneton(Vic.)

Descriptions have been changed in photo gallery but I have not gone to the trouble of changing the actual photo names in the gallery.
