Re: Pendle's Riverland Coaches
Not sure about the answer to the question, but here are some shots of Pendle's Coaches from 1940 to 1975 from the John Masterton Collection:
First a C&B bodied Ford V8 from 1940
Next a Freighter bodied Hino/GM with length 41'9" from around 1970:
and this could be the coach, but is it 40 ft long?:

Maybe this one on the right, although it's hard to tell length with half a bus:
Re: Pendle's Riverland Coaches
I think, I travelled on that Pendles Coach about the time Greyhound intrroduced the Eagles to Australia.
It was at the end of my time with Consolidated Press, or just starting in the travel industry.
Greyhound Southern which operated south and west of Sydney and the Penfold's operated north of Sydney.
They operated a joint media/travel industry weekend to Wilapena Pound, the Sydney and Melbourne group departed Adelaide in the Pendle's Coach to arrive a couple of hours before the Eagle.
The late John Wadmore was our escort, we were advised that the Hino is sample of the coaches being replaced by these new Eagles, suitable refreshed for the arrival abound 6pm the Eagle was to arrive with SA media, travel people and Greyhound Southern Management.
Those of you know the area it was all dirt roads in those days.
6.30pm cameras etc ready, the Eagle arrives with a trail of red bull dust following, about 35 passengers disembark looking like they had been on a 60 day safari around Australia and had nor showered for that period, covered in bull dust.
The interior looked like the desert, well some of our members on the board would remember that the first few Eagles had the air intake between the tag and rear axles, and dirt roads do not mix.
On Saturday, whislt the Eagle was cleaned the Stateliner Denning with rear boot, which overnighted on the route service was used with the Hino for local touring, and one one guest from Victorian whom was connected at the time by relatives of Northern Coaches whom was a member of Gryhound Southern took over our group.
It was none other than Bill Kings before is operation was purchased by AAT and now trades as AAT Kings.
What a day and evening he gave us and sold many of his 4wd tours after meeting him.
Sunday was our day to travel back to Adelaide in in New Super Eagle Coach cleaned to the best they could, and air vents blocked up and No Air Conditiong, hot in summer with many refreshment stops to cool off on the way back.
Also the bins did not seal either on the dirt roads, we all were given a letter to have what ever cleaned and send the bill to Greyhound
A complete change of clothes and shower in Adelaide prior to flying back to Sydney.
Naturely they did not receive the vast about of free publicity (good) they were expecting from the media at the time.
I did take some photos on the weekend but unfortunately were not able to fine them this afternoon.
So if anyone can post other Pendle's photos it would be appreciated.

Well peoples, you are going to have a fit when you read this.
My name is Stephen Pendle and I remember those buses you are referring to very well because they were my fathers.
I shall send the links for the website to my brother who drove them.
He has a lot more photos.
Our uncle is still alive and he will be interested as well.
We have quite a few old photos of the origins of the bus service as well as the "articulated bus" (like a semi trailer) where my mother, Ruby, was the "hostess" looking after the passengers in the rear cabin and my father was one of the drivers.
I am honoured that you people are interested in these buses.
Trevor, my brother would be able to tell you more about them.
If you want his email address email me on stephen.pendle@pmg.ie
I look forward to hearing from you.
Best regards

Some early photos from the Renmark Museum, one of the Commer coaches in a later life around SA and from the November 1947 T.& B.T., the ARTF Conference in Hobart with Mr W.V.Pendle (no. 10, 4th from left, almost centre of back row - with a good crop of hair).

Hi Lads,
I see you have referred to a photo of my Grandfather, wally Pendle, on a conference, but I cannot see the photo.
Can you reload it please?
If anyone has a photo of any pendle buses I would appreciate copies as I am writing memoirs for my family and would like to include photographs
cheers
stephen

Hi Stephen.
Your father's company was well known here in South Australia. I think that achievement should be written in a book. The history of the company deserves to be written for all of South Australians.I hope someone can write the book.I'll gladly buy a copy. Would anyone else buy a copy of the book?
As for the Freighter Hino 41ft coach, that specification was an interesting idea. That would have been a one off.l'd like to know what the story was on that, and, where it ended up years later.
Regards Chris.(Denv12)

Re: Pendle's Riverland Coaches
Hi Chris,
Apologies for delayed reply, I don't look here much and I am a mad busy person.
Strangely enough I have written a book about my father, Kevin, and my grandfather, Wally.
It is not just about their buses though.
I cold have plagiarized a name and called it "Planes, Trains and Automobiles" but they didn't own any trains.
It is not just about their buses, car, boats and planes but about the self preservation attitude of "forging a life out of nothing" but having a high degree of respect for and cooperation with other people.
It starts with my great great great grand parents who were thieves and shipped in chains under the care of her majesty's shipping crews in 1803 (he stole a horse) and 1810 (she stole a watch).
If you, or anyone else would like a copy of this there is no charge.
All I ask is that after you have copied it that you forward the CD or memory stick, what ever form you receive it in, to another person I ask you to (which will involve a small postage fee by yourselves).
Email me on stephenpendle63@gmail.com if you would like a copy.
Regards
Stephen
