So what happens now? Murrays buy these, 2yrs time they sell them, someone else buys them, runs them into the ground, then someone else buys them and runs it into the ground, then someone else buys it etc... This means for the next 15-20 years we are going to see these rubbish second-hand mobile disasters flow through the various coach companies. Try getting a Bonluck or Zhontong idler pulley in 15 years time... And now what happens in 2yrs when Mr Murray wants to sell his Chinese sphincters and can only get <$100k for them after buying them for not much less than an Aussie/Euro coach. How can he afford to upgrade again then? This is quite possibly a result of the tax rebate scheme for businesses from your government- although I don't quite think it went the way they planned it. But hey, if I could get every 4th bus free, I'd have upgraded too.

Loved brendan's comment about how he hates them so much he wants to set himself on fire... 10/10 mate :D ...

I am not supporting or condemning BCI, but:

Murray probably wouldn't "buy" them, he would lease them for say 3 or 4 years.

At the end of this time he has the option of paying out the residual and keeping them, or returning them to the finance company and they become "someone else's problem". So he knows exactly what the cost of these vehicles will be over this period. Maybe they won't last for 15 or even 10 years, but that is not Muuray's problem, or even ours. There are shonky operators out there who run suspect old Mercs or Scanias; at worst these BCI will end up on the scrap heap sooner

With the potential of him buying around 100 buses, I am sure he gets a deal out of BCI (not just on the volume, but the credo of someome having a "fleet" of them, not just one or two as most sales are). I'm guessing he got some good "warranty" provisions in the deal as well. Perhaps even a "power by the hour" lease and maintenace deal like Scania offered a few years back.

Ron Murray is no fool, and used to have some astute back office staff. I don't think he would rush into this deal without some very careful consideration.

A Bonluck idler pulley?? Well perhaps a Cummins idler pulley, which in fact you might be able to buy off the shelf in any industrial supplies store. These sort of parts are usually made to industry standards, meaning they are interchangeable and long-lasting availability wise. I have very few problems buying such parts for 60+ year old vehicles.

Well from what I've heard regarding the Cummins motors and Allison gearboxes is that these are also manufactured in China under license. Pure rumour mind you, but something to consider.

I am sure that the Chinese CAN make a good quality product, if someone is there actually monitoring the process.

I feel that Cummins, or Allison, or whoever, would be there protecting their international reputations.

The idler pulley on our BCI was NOT a Cummins part- far from it. The engine installed was a CHINESE 4cyl "for local Chinese market only". None of the ancillaries were *points a big finger at the Chong Shon-Ki fan and amazingly complicated gearbox*.

There must be some reason. I wonder why? Maybe they employed a nice young blonde saleswoman. I know I nearly ended up with a used Ford Territory that way; "Sign here" then she bent riiiiight over her desk to push the paperwork my way... So close...

Look at the web link I posted it tells you what engines and gearboxes the Chinese are making and putting in these buses and coaches as some look like something you find in a Leyland or a AEC bus from a bygone era you wonder sometimes if the Chinese have copied old engine and gearbox designs.

Is it necessary for you to make your posts in bold??? If you know how to click a "B" button, surely you know how you use "." "," and "?" ?

Not having a go at you but making a post in bold doesnt make it any differant to if it was normal text as your writing style is still the same.

I can show you an $8500 bill that shows you how much quality is in the production of a Chinese built cummins. 90000km on it and F^&%ed. RUSTED INSIDE. This is Cummins, not BCI. Wuxi ANyuan who built mine, buy the cummins, from Cummins, China. Quite funny really, they have a Cummins UK sticker on them, but when you trace the engine history, the bastard was made in china, out of shithouse recycled metal, never been anywhere near UK.
Chinese buses have a market, in fact a huge market here, They will not last 20-30 years, but in all honesty, do we want 30 year old vehicles and technology on our roads?
That said and done, My little 33 seater BCI is going like a champion at the moment after all the initial problems. BUT, I wont have it any longer than 5 years.
BTW, is anyone going to comment on the new fully imported scania buses. They are made in china also!

These: http://www.scania.com.au/buses-coaches/school/

They're built by Higer for Scania in a Joint Venture.

Those A30 are actually called A50 in China/Hong Kong. The body is built by Higer, but the chassis are imported directly from Scania.

I haven't heard any major complaints about their quality, and they are quite widely used in HK.

Example of them in action in HK's Disneyland: http://www.hkitalk.net/HKiTalk2/viewthr ... tid=470015

Now this may be something worth looking at. If Scania are going to maintain it ALL themselves... But then thinking back, those local HK buses are only a few years old and already in such terrible condition with broken pieces and things that don't work.

Denning Manufacturing in Queensland is trying with its Phoenix range and slowly getting numbers in Qld and NSW fleets, even AAT Kings have acquired one of their recently built coaches.
