Information request - Ex BCC AEC Reliance 300

Post by wisp »

Below are some pictures of ex BCC AEC Reliance number 300.
They were taken on 3rd December 1984.
They were taken at the corner of Inala Avenue and Serviceton Avenue, Inala.

My question is: Who was the operator of this bus at that time?

Hi Busman66,
It probably took me more than 10 seconds to find that same record.
However, I think that Newspaper Sellers may be a "final resting place" or a last known owner, rather than an operator in December 1984.
The bus clearly has (young looking) passengers on it in some photos. There were other school services operating around the same time, so I assume that this bus was also operating a school service. I don't know of any operator named "Newspaper Sellers".

Looks like an SWT actually, TfB used to give some buses to HBL/SWT upon retirement.

Does SWT = South West Transit? Or do you mean South Western Suburban Transit? The latter seemed to be the successor to, and received the newer buses of, Inala Bus Service. Inana Bus Service was still very much alive on that day in 1984 in Inala. Most of my photos from that day were of Inala BS buses.

Both of these had BCC buses on a lease arrangement for a while, but I believe that this arrangement only started after 1984.

HBL = Hornibrook Bus Lines? They had a corporate relationship with South West Transit and a similar lease scheme with the BCC.

Unfortunately, none of the fleet lists on this site for any of the above operators contains any AECs.
