To the contrary, ACT has been one of the last adopters in Australia. Tasmania was a few months behind it and NT hasn't tried yet.rtt_rules wrote: Fri Mar 21, 2025 9:29 pm Thanks, I figured it was always Canberra that would be one of the early adopters.

Ok interesting.
Re: Electric bus trial
New Woden depot has opened on the same site as the one that closed in the 1990s.

Re: Electric bus trial
Interesting they chose to go with a 'options for futures solar charging' (perhaps installation is just running late?), rather than installing it from the outset, which was done at the Rochedale Metro depot in Brisbane, as well as the depots starting to roll out electric buses in Perth. Think electric bus rollouts in NSW have often included depot solar / battery storage infrastructure too?
With Canberra's preference to storing their buses undercover, that alone would offer a lot more options for solar power than practically anywhere else in Australia, where roof space is much more limited.

It would be because solar panels are not essential for opening a bus depot.Merc1107 wrote:Interesting they chose to go with a 'options for futures solar charging' (perhaps installation is just running late?), rather than installing it from the outset,
You need to understand the context of this project. It was originally meant to be built by July 2019. For reasons (which I don't know), the build kept being delayed and when it eventually started, it had been re-scoped to be an electric depot from day 1.
My assumption is that including solar panel installation would complicate and potentially delay the build further.
