Hawthorn winning by 61 points over the West Coast Eagles.
Collingwood losing to Gold Coast by 11 points- I don't think they will get another premiership this year.

Re: What makes you happy today?
I was out shopping and the wind started to pick up. Feeling a bit cold, I went into Vinnies and found a nice grey pure wool coat that looked like it had never been used (the pockets were still stitched closed for one thing). Fitted me perfectly too. So I parted with $40 and walked out wearing the coat.......

Re: What makes you happy today?
Found the remains of an HP printer/scanner combo on the side of the road today, scavenged two electric motors from it and repowered an early-1970s Athearn HO scale blue box diesel from one of them. By pure luck the motors were the same spec as the original, being 12V and having the same RPM, even though the shapes were completely different (generic round can motor vs. open frame motor).
While the old motor was 5-pole and the new motor 3-pole, it is worlds ahead of the original performance as the old motor had a weak magnet and couldn't pull the skin off a rice pudding, not to mention causing the DC controller to cut out after two or so minutes (and yes, the motor was lubricated and the assembly rotated fine, it just went from fast when cold to slow and hot in next to no time, even with no load).
This piece of junk may well be the most powerful loco in my vintage DC fleet now (not that it takes much to beat Lima, Life-Like and Bachmann train set locos from the bad old days of pancake motors). The model itself is a Frankenstein, an Athearn F7 chassis mated with a Linkline (Frateschi) F3 masquerading as a GM class in Australian National green and gold, and is nowhere near mint condition. Before today, the loco had been converted to an unpowered dummy and was dragged dead by a Life-Like GP38-2, also in AN livery.
Normally I would have posted this in the Railpage model section, but given the forum no longer exists I posted it here instead.

Re: What makes you happy today?
I do a bit of hobby scrapping and have come across many motors of many shapes and sizes. I never thought to pick up printers and copiers maybe due to all the plastic to junk.
Any other goodies like wires, other motors and circuit boards to get out of them?

Re: What makes you happy today?
Funny you asked, I went past the same scrap printer today and found another motor I didn't see last time (this time it was a regular flat-sided motor instead of cylindrical). Most of the printer is just ABS plastic and air, not much to pull from it. And a nice sheet of glass for the scanner, but this one was in a million pieces so no luck there.
The circuit board was tiny, just three chips, three capacitors, two coils, and some small flat ribbon cables being the only source of wires. Nothing beats finding a scrap computer if you need wires for low voltage stuff, ATX power supplies have enough to last a lifetime. I have Pringles containers full of through-hole electronic components taken from scrap circuit boards. Modern electronics aren't anywhere near as fun as everything is so tiny and soldered directly to the board.
Another source of small electric motors are old computer CD/DVD drives, the door mechanism uses a regular DC motor (the motor that spins the disc is AC however, same with hard disks and floppy drives). VCRs (remember those?) also have DC motors for the open/close mech, or at least the one I scrapped did.

Re: What makes you happy today?
That was great. What are through hole electronic components.
In just looking for copper, aluminium, complete motors etc to get scrap value out of. Some circuit boards have large aluminium fins with this white grease where the mosfets go.
Printers sound like a waste of time and space.

She’s from Macquarie University that figures.
Refuses to take responsibility for the performance, blames it on the world instead.
Back to your ivory tower little one.
