Rare and interesting car sightings

Saw a Renault Alpine at Pennant Hills today in the car park that is pennant Hills Road. I don't know if it's rare or old (it looked pretty new) but it did look interesting.

I also saw an HQ Holden sedan in traffic at Baulkham Hills.

Had a very well kept mid 1970s (I think) Valiant driving behind me along Ramsay Road in Five Dock the other day. It was a metallic coppery colour with a beige vinyl roof and venetian blinds on the rear window.

Just Googled it and it looks like it was a VJ or VK Valiant Regal.

1986 Volvo 240GL up for grabs.

These were assembled under contract at the then Nissan plant in Clayton, Victoria.

Looks like it was an ex-Volvo Australia executive driven vehicle, according to the logbook.

Look at how low down on the dash the head unit is, will not be any good today.

Blinker fluid, Swift, blinker fluid, a crucial piece in the puzzle of a happy automotive experience; the others include keeping your alternator powder topped up, and sufficient smoke reserved within the sealed electrical system

On a more serious note, I'm surprised the plastics in that Volvo still appear to be intact. It seems they have something of a tendency (along with the wiring looms in these 240s) of disintegrating. That Redblock engine, though, would be barely run in at 300,000km - with regular maintenance, I'm sure it'd do another 300,000 without skipping a beat!

The owner of one of the local cafes here runs an old Volvo. It might be an 850, but I'm not sure. It's definitely not something like a 240, as it's not as boxy as that. A friend of mine drives a 240. I don't know how many years he's had it for but I wouldn't be surprised if he bought it new - he's well into his 80s now and the car looks pretty much immaculate - on full rego too, as it's his everyday car.

As for the 850, I'm not there very often, but I'll see if I can get a photo of it next time I'm at the cafe. Don't know when that will be though.

I saw a nice early 1960s Wolseley the other day. The earlier mid sized model with the pointy tailfins. Two tone pink and grey. Saw it while I was driving down a few backstreets in Baulkham Hills though, so no photos. It must belong to someone local, as I've seen it a few times before.

I saw something rather strange on the Windsor Road today: a mid sized SUV, covered in what looked like plastic wrap with an annoying looking swirly black and white pattern. There were openings for the front and rear lights and door handles rather crudely cut out and no badges were visible whatsoever. I can't say I recognised what it was, but it did have a slightly bland generic look. The only identification was a sticker with the letters SRIH on it.

I saw a silver Mitsubishi Verada at Northmead today and then realised how long it has been since the last time I saw one......

I was walking along the Old Northern Road at Castle Hill today and saw a FIAT 132 drive past.Not sure if it was silver, very light grey, pr grubby white. It was on full rego too.

Seen today in Melbourne, was a Ford Corsair, a rebadged Nissan Pintara.
Sold between 1989 and 1992 often at fire sale prices when new.

Well, I'm a bit late in saying this, but I did see a few interesting cars last Sunday. We went to St Albans (about 20 or 30 minutes past Wiseman's Ferry) to visit the local markets. They were nice markets, although rather smaller than I was expecting, although that didn't stop me spending some money on a couple of the stalls. The bacon and egg rolls were pretty good value too, but I digress......

Just past Glenorie, I saw an immaculate silver E Type Jaguar, one of the later ones that didn't have the faired in headlamps. Then, closer to Wisemans Ferry, at an intersection, a rather professional looking photo session (for a car magazine or newspaper maybe?) with two brand new Porsches, one with a fancy paint job. I don't know much about Porsches, but a bit of Googling tells me that they were probably a 911 and a Panamera. At Wisemans ferry I saw a 1930s Ford based hot rod in bright yellow and when we got to St Albans, we parked the car and I saw a red MGB on the other side of the road.

(I tried several times to upload a photo of the MGB, but each time I got an error message saying the file was too large, even though I resized it to 124kb)

I saw a sky blue one the other day. Also was shown around this sky blue AP6 Valiant by its young mechanic owner today. It has a three speed column manual and a beefy looking red slant six under the bonnet. What an engine!

Saw a gold coloured Ford Cortina at Grove Square at Baulkham Hills yesterday. Google tells me it was a MarkIV Cortina. No photograph, I'm afraid, as it was in a badly lit part of the undercover car park and only the rear end was visible.

Someone would probably pay 10K for it even though they sold for about $50 in roadworthy condition in the 80s.

On a drive to Richmond today, I saw a red MGB (like the one I saw at Wisemans Ferry, but not the same car, as this one was on full rego) near Windsor, and an immaculate red Ford Capri (the Australian one, not the English one) parked outside Vinnies at Richmond. On the way home, near the RAAF base, I passed a beige Morris Minor ute heading towards Richmond.
