Seen along Lonsdale St, Kinetic bus 955 has lost its smartbus livery and is now in PTV livery making it the first CB60 EVOII to be converted from smartbus livery.
Kinetic bus 912 has also had its Southport flip-dot display replaced with a new Hanover white LED display.

As a car passenger, I went past Dysons bus #1122 which was stopped at North Rd. Reservoir that was going to Lalor on the 566 at 8 pm. It had police cars parked in front and behind it with an ambulance there and people looking on. Does anyone know what happened?

Reddit topic on Moonee Valley Coaches losing the 503 and 506. The last Moonee Valley-run services will be on the 29th, with Dysons taking over on the 1st of March.

Moonee Valley Coaches wrote:Important Note to Passengers

The Higginson family now in its 3rd generation, has operated route 506 Moonee Ponds to Westgarth for 60 years and the 503 Essendon Station to East Brunswick for 37 years.

Due to the recent State Labour Government announcement for family operated Public Transport businesses, we will cease to operate our two services on the 29th of February 2024.

We would like to take this opportunity to thank each and everyone of you for your loyal patronage and support, it is because of you that we have been able to operate a successful family business for all these years.

Whether we took you to school, work, shopping or for leisure it has been a privilege to operate these services for you.

Garry Higginson along with family and friends will operate the last two trips on both services, Thursday 29th February route 503 from Essendon Station at 5:40pm to 7:20pm then the 506 from Moonee Ponds at 8:10pm to 9:30pm.

When we pull into the Moonee Ponds terminus for the last time it will be emotional and sad, I'm sure there will be a crowd to witness this historic event. The End of an Era.

Thank you to all.

will be interesting to see if Dysons will acquire the entire fleet, just the public buses or the Ivecos in the PTV livery. If they do indeed end up acquiring the route buses in the Moonee valley coaches livery, it will be interesting to see if they end up repainting the newer buses into their livery or in the PTV livery. Its also interesting that this is Dyson's first Metropolitan acquisition since 2012

Spotted onboard Kinetic bus 140 today whilst travelling around Doncaster was a newly installed Consat telematics driver unit and PID screen (similar setup to Ventura), the existing 2nd gen LED PID was still fitted but disabled.

Kinetic have been trialling Consat on a very small portion of its fleet as part of a trial, but only with the PIDS.

Buses 140, 4000 and a couple of electrics are being used as part of the trial.

Rode Kinetic 8901 yesterday for the first time in many years (was running on route 380), it's probably old news but it's had a major refurbishment. No more SmartBus livery, no more tired old Invicta seat covers, and a new-style floor with NO STANDING sign near the driver like the current Optimus/Gemilang fleet. Still had its SmartBus PID installed but it wasn't turned on (not even the usual "validate your MYKI" message), or might not even been connected to anything following its retirement from the 901 several years ago.

8901 is on its fifth owner in its 16 years of service: Invicta, Grenda's, Ventura, Transdev and Kinetic.

Re: Consat PIDs. I hope Kinetic are going to actually start using them on non-SmartBus routes, unlike the current useless setup of "Smart" buses having the PIDs turned off as per 8901 yesterday and every other PID-fitted bus I've ridden on the 380 etc. over the past decade or so, where half the time they're not even working on SmartBus routes. I also hope they don't use that horribly-bugged AI voice Ventura uses which can't pronounce half the stops correctly.

Kinetic seem to present their fleet much better than Transdev ever did, those Volvo's and the ex Invicta Scania Smartbuses feel and look like new.

Pretty much all 83XX vehicles and most of the 86XX vehicles have been refurbished by now. 8614 has also received a refurbishment as well over the past month, as has Custom Coaches CB60 Evo II bus 955, the first one of ex National smartbuses to receive a refurbishment and a change into PTV livery.

As a side note, Kinetic ex Invicta Smartbuses refurbished into PTV livery also have received a floor upgrade, as well as a new Hanover desto. So far, 8901-8903 and 8906 have received refurbishments.

Agreed. Transdev's fleet presentation was beyond appalling up to about 2021 when things started improving. And while Kinetic aren't perfect in fleet presentation (seen a couple of buses here and there with the odd graffiti or dirty seats/ceilings), they're still at a really good standard

Hopefully the Custom and Designline buses are next, there are still a few silver buses going around with SmartBus logos showing but the PIDs were ripped out long ago.

I think more Customs will be getting refurbishments (#938 has just received one), but the MAN Designlines won't be. Likely to be withdrawn sooner than some of the older buses in the fleet. Many have already joined the rail fleet, and #652 has already been withdrawn

Ringwood is bubble bus heaven as of 2024, I have seen them running on everything this year excluding the obvious 901. Also CR221L heaven right now courtesy of the level crossing works.

Likewise at Mitcham, where not even the 907 can get away from regular buses despite being a SmartBus route (bubbles, C-Max, Evo II right up to the latest and greatest). The last Ventura bubble I caught on a 736 was a rattly piece of crap with Metcards(!) shoved into the ceiling panels to stop them from rubbing together (probably been there since new). Unfortunately that did nothing for one of the rear doors that looked like it was going to fall off at any moment.

Kinetic's bubbles seem to be in a lot better condition than Ventura's, probably due to Transdev previously running them into the ground and having to fix them whereas Ventura's have aged like milk. Going through my camera, I snapped 633 and 639 running rail replacement in plain white.

Spotted bus 8663 this afternoon freshly converted from silver into the orange PTV livery.

Best thing I've noticed from the Kinetic buses that have received a mid life overhaul/refurb of is the seat cushions have received some new foam and have some decent comfort and are no longer the worn out rock flat that they got to.

The smartbus livery is effectively dead as the DoT have admitted to the dilution of branding and that the single PTV livery allows for easier deployment of the fleet. Even the CB80's are being converted to PTV livery.

I suppose an indication of whether a bubble bus is going to be retained long term or get an overhaul is whether or not the loop barriers has been replaced with the Transglaze glass security screens but who knows what the plans are, at least Kinetic are doing a substantially better job than the previous operator who let the fleet become feral environments.

Dysons Buses 296 and 297 have been re-liveried into the PTV livery, pretty unusual for any bus their age to be put into the new PTV livery these days and these buses are already close to being removed from route service completely so I'm very surprised they're getting the PTV livery now.
