Transdev looks forward to some action in Singapore

Following it's exit from VIC and NSW public transit scene, Transdev has set its sights on Singapore where the results of the upcoming tenders for Bukit Merah (Package 4) and Jurong (Package 6) will be announced shortly. It will be competing against National Express as well as established players, including the state-owned SMRT Corp as well as Comfort Delgro, Transit Systems and Go-Ahead Group.

The Bukit Merah package is one of two such contracts (the other being Woodlands) involving bus routes that travel into Malaysia. Incumbent Comfort Delgro had retained it for five years commencing September 2018. The Jurong package is being farmed out for the first time after being managed by Comfort Delgro for the last three to four decades.

The tender involves individual as well as combined bids. It is not clear if Transdev is bidding for one or two packages.

I stand corrected, although those are all joint ventures. They don't exactly have full control.

You're right. Transdev kicked out Transfield and took full control.

My point is that the main company lost their bus packages in Sydney but they've not given up hope of getting a slice of the tightly-controlled Singapore market.

State-owned companies won big at the latest round of tendering as SBS Transit (a subsidiary of Comfort Delgro) retained control of Bukit Merah package for another 5 years. However, they lost Jurong to SMRT Buses (a division of subway operator SMRT Corp). This means Soon Lee Bus Depot in Singapore's far west will be requisitioned, the first time an existing depot has been acquired by the government. SMRT Buses had previously lost two contracts to Tower Transit (Transit Systems) in the last few years.
