[Oct-Dec 2022] SA transport observations
October has arrived, so we're in the tail end of the year. Where has the time gone?!
The National Pharmacies Christmas Pageant will be held on Saturday, 12 November, returning to the streets after a three years due to COVID restrictions. The event in 2020 and 2021 was held at the Adelaide Oval, with AO services running for the event. This is regarded by some as 'the busiest day of the year for public transport' and as a result there are additional working of bus, train and tram services, and detours and short workings for City services.
The mask mandate on public transport was lifted with effect at midnight on Tuesday 20 September 2022. My observations indicate that many are still wearing masks, whether they're not sure about the mandate lifting or wearing them for their own safety or the safety of their loved ones I can't be certain. The chains that have graced the seats in front of the buses, blocking these off from use are also being removed.
Work at the Ovingham crossing continues, with Ovingham station expected to reopen towards the end of the year.
Post your observations regarding South Australian transport observations that wouldn't seem to warrant their own thread here.

Were passengers fairly compliant with the mask mandate up to the date of the restrictions easing? The Phonj wrote: ↑Sun Oct 02, 2022 7:44 pm My observations indicate that many are still wearing masks, whether they're not sure about the mandate lifting or wearing them for their own safety or the safety of their loved ones I can't be certain. Without going too much into semantics, it depended on the area and the nature of the passenger.

For the first time for a few weeks I saw both double deckers in service from Aldgate/Mt Barker this week - I
think that they were both on the T840 or 840X.

Yes - 3402 spent a long time at Custom Care and recently returned. Until one inevitably breaks down again it will probably become more common to see them on their set shifts.Tim Williams wrote: ↑Fri Oct 21, 2022 8:38 pm For the first time for a few weeks I saw both double deckers in service from Aldgate/Mt Barker this week - I

Is 1190 O-Bahn equipped? I know that it was at some point as it was tested on the track, but I’m not sure on the status of that.

1190 has still got guide wheels and rear beacon light.
Re: [Oct-Dec 2022] SA transport observations
Hope you don't mind me pulling this out of last quarter's thread.
Will the electric trains be timetabled faster?
If so I'm surprised they haven't already done so in the off-peak, nights and weekends when they don't need as many trains.
Thanks.
Does anyone have any update on when the all-electric timetable may be introduced?Lieselta wrote: ↑Tue Aug 02, 2022 2:53 pm Yeah, new timetable will wait on the rest of the Alstom class 4000s and Ovingham station being complete I believe.
Considering they were all re-engined in 2018, I'd hope SAPTA will introduce a better timetable for Outer Harbour and maybe Belair trains instead of just retire the spares.

Re: [Oct-Dec 2022] SA transport observations
4 of the 12 new trains are now in service and a 5th is being fitted out at Dry Creek depot. Based on the rate of delivery for the Seaford service, it will be into the second half of 2023 before all the new trains are in service and an all-eletric timetable can be run.Glen wrote: ↑Sun Oct 23, 2022 6:25 pm Hope you don't mind me pulling this out of last quarter's thread.

The Seaford service saw 2 minutes taken off the all stops trips once sufficient electrics were available.
Evening and weekend services are generally all electric. However the Gawler line is subject to a number of temporary speed restrictions at pedestrian crossings between Adelaide and Salisbury where the automated gates are not yet in operation and at the Ovingham Station works.

What will be the highest set number when they are all delivered?
Re: [Oct-Dec 2022] SA transport observations
Scania Hybrid 5715 is in service. Not sure if these latest buses are on NGB chassis or not.

5006 is the only NGB delivered so far. 5715 has been in service since late October.
Scania Hybrids 5716 did have its first day in service this morning however (not an NGB either).

The Scania K320CB or the Scania C250E Electric bus
shouldn’t be too far away one is definitely a Custom Denning body
saw the bodyless chassis for one of these electric buses at Sydney Bus Show last month.

Re: [Oct-Dec 2022] SA transport observations
Work was still underway today on platform lighting. However Devon Tce at the station and Avenue Rd intersection is still without bitumen with the road surface having been removed in the past couple of weeks. The pedestrian rail crossing at the north of the station had the bitumen replaced earlier this week with new tactile tile edging.Darwin bus lover wrote: ↑Thu Nov 03, 2022 5:36 pm Gawler line timetable now has Ovingham as from November 6. A mini-roundabout has been installed at the Drayton St/Exeter Tce/Old Torrens Rd intersection and traffic calming on Devon and Exeter at the pedestrian rail crossing under the overpass.
