Centenary Bus Service was at Oxley, owners were Geoff and Lyn Philp. Also owned Bus Stop Sales, a used bus dealership, located next door to the bus depot in Douglas Street.

...And prior to that a gentleman named Ron Taylor had the service that ran from Oxley to Yeronga.
I drove for him on a weekend.
He also had a service from Redland Bay to the City.

Very interesting - you wouldn't happen to have any photos of Taylor's buses or know what happened to his run by chance?ozbuses wrote:...And prior to that a gentleman named Ron Taylor had the service that ran from Oxley to Yeronga.

The Oxley Meatworks to Yeronga Cemetary run was at one stage owned by Mr Matthew Stewart, founder of Stewart & Sons Coaches in Bundaberg. The service changed hands to Mrs Margaret Spencer circa 1945, and then to a partnership by the name of Corbett & DeWaard during the early 1950s.
I have the exact changeover dates here somewhere - just a case of finding them.

In the early 60's. My job was taken over by Hermann from Hermann's Tours. Don't know if he is still alive. If so he may be able to help.

Re: Private bus company in Oxley
I can finally add some further information to the ownership history of the Yeronga (Ipswich Road) to Oxley service.
Sold by Ernest Parker to Matthew Wray Stewart (later founder of Stewart & Sons Coaches, Bundaberg) during September 1942
Sold by Matthew Stewart to to Joseph James Lyons during March 1944
Sold by Joseph Lyons to Margaret Spencer during September 1944.
Sold by Margaret Spencer to Marshall Corbett and Jacob John De Waard during March 1955.
Sold by Corbett & DeWaard to R.H. & H. Britnell during February 1961.
Sold by R.H. & H. Britnell to Ronald F. Taylor during June 1962.
Sold by Ronald Taylor to the Sunnybank Bus Service during August 1963.
This is a fairly comprehensive list - Ernest Parker I believe founded the service. I will check on that one.
The buses under Corbett & DeWaard's ownership were three former Ford buses of forward-control owned by Alan Howatson's Mt Gravatt Bus Service. These were still in use by the early 1960s.

Hi all, Do you know if Centenary Bus Service is still in business? I think they did the Corinda school runs in the late 1970s but I can't find any photos of the school buses from that era. Grateful for any information you might have! Thank you!!
