KMB HK orders 56 new ADL Enviro 500's

Post by Tim Williams »

Some of this information was sourced from a recent article by ABC magazine.

The latest order, just announced for 56 three-axle Alexander Dennis Limited (ADL) Enviro500 by Kowloon Motor Bus Company HK will take the total of Enviro 500's in their fleet to more than 2,500 by year end.

KMB is the largest franchised bus operator in Hong Kong with a fleet of around 4,000 buses operating on more than 400 routes. Most of its buses are double deckers and most, if not all, are low floor and fully air conditioned.
KMB’s new Enviro500 will be 12.8m long and powered by low-emission Euro 6 engines, ADL states. They will be able to carry up to 143 passengers, with all 98 seats fitted with 3 point safety belts.

The new vehicles are expected to look very similar (if not, the same) as photos, except that KMB seem to constantly "fiddle" with this next red livery. My apologies for the second photo being a little fuzzy.

These two photos show the current KMB livery - the photos were taken by Danny Chan (a well known Hong Kong author of books on buses and other HK transport) and are from the Alexander Dennis website.

My personal opinion of this current livery is that KMB, after several relatively minor modifications, have got it right!

They also have the 3-door version of this model in Singapore. If they can be deployed in Perth that would be the icing on the cake.

They would be a great addition to most fleets and probably would be acceptable to those who worry excessively about "dwell times".

Apparently those come with Mercedes OM936 €6-compliant engines. Reminds me of the time we had Mercedes O305 DD in Singapore.
