NSW On Demand Buses
Re: Sydney commuters get chance to trial on-demand buses
No Opal really does seem stupid. No other word for it, really.
Re: Sydney commuters get chance to trial on-demand buses
Well those two kind of go together - you wouldn't really want people getting on a TfNSW-livery bus in suburban Sydney if it doesn't have Opal.moa999 wrote:Stupid parts about the trial (imho)

The POD bus does appear to have the NSW Waratah, and I assume Transport wording.gld59 wrote: you wouldn't really want people getting on a TfNSW-livery bus in suburban Sydney if it doesn't have Opal.

It’s due to start in 3 days and still no app available nor online booking form. I’m surprised it wasn’t released earlier.

They can't help their window film fetish, making it impossible to see where you are on a rainy night. What thought! (?)

Ride-plus Manly and Eastern Suburbs trials
Not surprisingly, the Ride-Plus web site for Transdev's "‘point to hub’ or ‘first mile / last mile’" brand operating the Manly and ES trials beginning a day later than the Sutherland trial is also "coming soon". Personally, I would have included Bondi Beach as a "hub". It certainly attracts way more people than Rose Bay and it really doesn't make sense for people to travel to hubs that are further away to get to it. It also would be more useful if these services picked up and dropped off en-route from or to a hub, I am fearful that if this is deemed a success we will see low frequency services replaced with an even lower frequency one. Pickup at the door, "premium service" and "a superior customer experience" hardly make up for this.

Can you think of a word that sounds like app, which describes this idea in one?

Saw one of the Transdev ones registered CN43VI twice on the way from Miranda heading towards Caringbah this morning. Was driving both times so no photo.

And TfNSW now seems to be getting away with blue murder over accessibility, in several directions, with no 0ne appearing to notice or complain.

This is the crumb thrown to Wollongong in the wake of the Gong Shuttle. Ironically, the people who are most likely to call on such a service are those with mobility limitations, disabled, elderly, parents with prams.Tonymercury wrote:And TfNSW now seems to be getting away with blue murder over accessibility, in several directions, with no 0ne appearing to notice or complain.

Re: Sydney commuters get chance to trial on-demand buses
The Ride Plus and Transdevlink websites are up. 3 free trips after entering the promo code 3FREE after booking your first trip on the Apple and soon to be available Google Play apps.
Curiously, the Transdevlink trial caters to the technologically challenged by offering telephone bookings and cash payments in addition to on-line payment while the the Ride Plus does not. Given that Ride Plus picks up from known hubs they could have offered standby seats and accepted cash payments on that one.
Both Ride Plus and Trandevlink offer a "customer promise" on maximum journey times of 15 and 30 minutes respectively. However, the conditions of this promise are missing from the linked terms and no consequences are defined.
It looks like they are planning on a no better than 1 hour service since booking is required at least an hour before travel time. So fairly pointless if you have access to a bus service with a 1 hour or better frequency unless you know sufficiently in advance that you require and end up receiving a service between those times unless you have special requirements. Given the difficultly of some Bondi Rd commuters getting seats on scheduled service I can imagine them filling up these shuttles.

Re: Sydney commuters get chance to trial on-demand buses
Today's announcement about free car registration for toll-road users reveals the government's true agenda on transport. I wouldn't be surprised if the on-demand bus idea was visualised as replacing as many bus routes as possible so that the dregs who won't or can't drive will be scooped up by these glorified taxi services.
We're getting a preview on the south coast with the general attack on public transport while the completion of the M1 motorway goes full speed ahead - with a section of toll road at the end to actually get into Sydney.
So motorists get a huge taxpayer-funded subsidy to use private motorways, while Gong Shuttle users have to cough up to make up a tiny shortfall. I wouldn't greet this on-demand bus idea with any joy. It's a Trojan horse.

The government is giving a nice handout to its development mates. Presumably, the extra traffic demand will either require widening of the motorways or looking at public transport. Stupid policy.
Re: Sydney commuters get chance to trial on-demand buses
The free-car rego is just a cheaper solution versus the lobby that's been asking for a cap on toll fees.

Re: Sydney commuters get chance to trial on-demand buses
^ That one looks good and professionally presented without being over the top like that Bridj thing trying to appear boutique but looking quite weird in reality. Nice to see some can keep it real. Being reminiscent of the TNSW livery is a clever way to reassure users as they are introduced to this type of service.
