Re: PTA / Transperth Service Changes - 2020
23 only operates a few times a day.
102/107 using Thomas Street may eat into the declining ridership of 103.

Re: PTA / Transperth Service Changes - 2020
I find the Transperth notices a bit vague this time around. Instead of saying more direct path to Glendalough Station, it should clearly state the Joondanna deviation is being deleted

The full run-through for those who want to skip running through the website or for those who haven't been able to find it somehow is available here: Transperth Bus Network Changes - Sun 11 Oct
Along with those changes, there are also Perth Busport stand changes effective from the same date (11 October), ditching the grouped stands '1-4,' '5-8,' '9-12' and '13-16' in favour of an easier to find 'zone' system.

Re: PTA / Transperth Service Changes - 2020
Is that you mean for the Route 406?
The Joondanna part was the short term route since introduction (back to February 2015) to avoid the Scarborough Beach Road / Green Street intersection. Since there's a second stop sign was built and make the buses can be go easily without the hazard. Ultimately the intersection will becoming a roundabout.
Re: PTA / Transperth Service Changes - 2020
Just saw from the spatial data from Transperth, there's some minor route changes for the route 286 and 288 in Forrestfield.
The stop 23012 on Access Road outside of Forrestfield Village is no longer be used, the service will be commencing at stop 14114 and terminating at stop 14103, both stops locating at Hawtin Road. (both stops are currently served by route 286 and 288 Maida Vale trips and route 294)
The route 285 was redrawn at Oats Street Station end to reflect the current runs.

I've also found whilst updating my timetable database that some changes don't make it onto the web site.

Absolutely. Interesting that the removal or addition of singular trips warrants mention for some routes but not others at times. When these sorts of changes are mentioned, it's described in a way that suggests the changes are more serious than they actually are.busdriver12 wrote: ↑Fri Oct 23, 2020 2:37 amI've also found whilst updating my timetable database that some changes don't make it onto the web site.
wachris, I'd tend to agree with your assessment.
In a similar sense, the infamous 'due to poor patronage' phrase is not one that I am particularly fond of, personally.

Fremantle Gazette wrote: City of Fremantle to launch free CAT bus review, considers service changes
Adam Poulsen, Fremantle Gazette
October 27, 2020 2:08PM
The City of Fremantle is considering adopting free public transport and doing away with its CAT buses, as part of a review of the service.
Fremantle City councillors voted 8-4 at last month’s meeting to endorse an investigation into a Free Transit Zone like that employed by the City of Perth.
They also voted 11-1 to investigate an alternative CAT service based on the existing model.
The officers’ recommendation had been simply to note the progress of the ongoing CAT review and endorse the service’s primary objectives, which included reducing traffic and increasing public transport use.
The move towards a two-pronged investigation came after Cr Sam Wainwright moved a successful amendment which was carried 5-2.
The proposal sparked lively debate, with Cr Wainwright suggesting a Free Transit Zone would provide a better service than the CAT.
“We’ve got the worst co-funding deal of any CAT service across Perth: worse than the shuttle bus in Subiaco, worse than the Perth CBD CAT, worse than the Joondalup CAT,” he said.
“Something that is our core business, that we should be doing to contribute to public transport patronage – such as capital replacement of bus stops and shelters – we’re not doing.
“We’re doing zero of what is our job, and we’re spending $700,000 a year on something which you could argue is not fundamentally our job.”
Opponents such as Cr Graham argued investigating a Free Transit Zone was premature.
“To me it’s just going to get more complicated,” Cr Graham said.
“If we make the decision in six months that we cut the whole (CAT Service) in October 2022, that’s fine.”
The City of Fremantle funds 60 per cent of its CAT services, with the State Government covering the remaining 40 per cent under a contract due to expire in October 2022.
The CAT review began in June, after COVID-19 prompted council to scrap the Red CAT service and halve the frequency of Blue CAT services for up to 12 months.
As part of the review, council directed City chief executive Philip St John to request the State Government to “look more favourably at funding the bulk of the Fremantle CAT services”.
In her report to council, City strategic planning manager Phillida Rodic said the two CAT services cost about $1.1 million a year, or $1.25 per trip.

Anyway, I believe having a FTZ in Freo sounds quite good, considering the number of bus routes going there. The area can stretch from South Street/South Terrace in the south to High Street/Ord Street in the east and Canning Highway/Queen Victoria Street in the north.

Just saw from the Transperth website, there's some minor time changes for routes 24, 25, 26, 27, 28, 102, 103 and 107. And also for routes 177, 178, 179 and 930 which happens a week after those route changes thereafter.

Re: PTA / Transperth Service Changes - 2020
Just curious, how do you get the info for the 177-179 & 930, was that by manually checking through the website, or is there some feature I don't know about?
Re: PTA / Transperth Service Changes - 2020
For that time I've just manually checking the PDF timetables for the update, for that time being Transperth had yet to publish the link for that moment.
Re: PTA / Transperth Service Changes - 2020
Just saw the one that published by Transperth and seen that this does not applicable to the route 355, instead the route 335 will be affected.

From Monday 2 November, as part of our Bus Stops Accessibility Works Program, there will be a permanent change to the location of Stop 14684, in Middle Swan, serviced by routes 297, 310, 311, 355 and School Specials 749, 750, 767 and 768.
Stop 14684 (Great Northern Hwy after Toodyay Rd) will be relocated 33m closer to Richardson Rd.

Would funding a free transit zone cost Fremantle Council less than contributing to the CAT service?

Re: PTA / Transperth Service Changes - 2020
Personally, I don't feel the CAT contributes much to the greater Fremantle community in its normal form (with both the Red & Blue loops running). Overcrowding often occurs on both due to the one-way loop routes they both take, but considering the numerous bus services in and out of Fremantle, it's effectively 'stolen' patronage from regular services the taxpayer has already funded. So effectively, the people of Fremantle pay (and taxpayers as a whole!) not only for regular services, but also a free service that duplicates most of them, too.
Fund an FTZ, I say. Even if it costs the same, a much larger group of people stand to benefit from it versus the CATs with their limited service span.

I'd post any important, bus-related links I had, but they're outdated anyways.
Re: PTA / Transperth Service Changes - 2020
We are seeking community feedback on a proposed new bus service (Route 523) which would operate between Cockburn Central Station and Treeby.
This new service would see the Transperth network expand to Treeby for the first time.
Route 523 is proposed to operate seven days a week at the following times:
Every 15 minutes during weekday peak periods
Every 60 minutes during off peak weekdays, Saturdays and Sundays.
Services would be timed to formally connect with trains at Cockburn Central Station.
View a map of the proposed new Route 523.
Please note, Route 523 would temporarily deviate due to Main Roads works at the intersection of Armadale Rd and Ghostgum Ave from 3 September 2020 to mid-2021. No stops would be missed.

We are seeking community feedback on a proposed new bus service (Route 544) which would operate between Kwinana Station and Wellard Station, via Bertram & Wellard.
This new service would see the Transperth network provide more convenient public transport access for The Village at Wellard, Emerald Park and Providence estates.
New Route 544 is proposed to operate seven days a week at the following times:
Every 20 minutes during weekday peak periods
Every 60 minutes during weekday off peak periods
Every 60 minutes during the day on Saturdays and Sundays.
Services would be timed to formally connect with trains at Kwinana Station.
New Route 544 would operate a coordinated service with existing Route 543 along Johnson Rd, increasing service frequency for Bertram residents at the following times:
Every 10-20 minutes during weekday peak periods
Every 30 minutes during weekday off peak periods
Every 30 minutes during the day on Saturdays and Sundays.

We are seeking community feedback on a proposed new bus route (Route 233) which would operate between Gosnells and Cockburn Central stations, via Southern River, Harrisdale and Piara Waters. To facilitate the introduction of this new route, changes would be made to routes 210 and 211 in Gosnells and Route 517 in Southern River.
New Route 233
The proposed new bus route provides a more convenient public transport option for residents of Southern River, Harrisdale and Piara Waters by increasing connections to the Transperth network, including improved access to Cockburn Central Station.
It is proposed the route will operate seven days a week at the following times:
Every 15 minutes during weekday peak periods
Every 60 minutes during off peak weekdays, Saturdays and Sundays.
Services would be timed to formally connect with train services at Gosnells Station, with every effort being made to also provide convenient transfers at Cockburn Central Station.
There is also an alternative route which would operate via Aspiri Prom, instead of Armadale Rd, taking between three to five minutes longer.
Changes to Routes 210 & 211
To reduce overlap with the proposed Route 233 and in order to make routes 210 and 211 more direct and improve community access in areas not currently well served by public transport, Transperth is proposing to make the following route changes:
Route 210 would travel a more direct path along Fremantle Rd to Gosnells Station. The service would no longer travel along George, Crandon, King or Eudoria Streets, or Stalker Rd. Residents currently boarding services at these locations would need to use routes 231 or 232 or board along Fremantle Rd (between George and Wheatley St). We anticipate that residents of north western Gosnells will benefit from improved public transport access.
Route 211 would travel a more direct path to Gosnells Station travelling along Corfield St before joining Dorothy St, and would no longer travel along Anaconda Dr or Compton Rd. Residents currently boarding services at these locations would need to either:
Use routes 231 or 232
Board along Corfield St on the revised Route 211
Board along Southern River Rd on the proposed Route 233.
There are no proposed changes to where the current routes 231 and 232 operate.
Change to Route 517
The introduction of Route 233 and increasing residential development in the area requires a change to Route 517 in Southern River. Route 517 is currently operating on a temporary route through Southern River, awaiting completion of the road network east of Park Lake.
It is proposed that Route 517 will operate north of Park Lake (along Castlewood Pkwy, Didcot and Balfour Streets), providing a more convenient option for residents closer to Bletchley Park and Southern Grove Primary Schools. Residents south of Park Lake will be served by the new Route 233 on Southern River Rd.
Deviations to Southern River College would continue to operate, however will do so within the new route.
View a map of the proposed new Route 233 and changes to Routes 210, 211 and 517.

We are seeking community feedback on an extension of all Route 567 trips from its current termination point on Heritage Park Dr to Sixty Eight Rd in Baldivis. Transperth currently operate a limited number of School Day only trips to Sixty Eight Rd.
This change would see the Transperth network provide more convenient public transport access for Brightwood and Paramount estates.
There is no change to frequency or operating hours, with Route 567 continuing to operate at the following times:
Every 20 minutes during weekday peak periods
Every 60 minutes during the day, on Saturdays and Sundays.
Buses would formally connect with train services at Warnbro Station.
View a map of the proposed extension to Route 567.
Please note, Route 566 will continue to terminate on Heritage Park Dr until further developments of the road network west of Baldivis Rd.

Re: PTA / Transperth Service Changes - 2020
We are seeking community feedback on a proposed new bus service (Route 338) which would operate between Henley Brook Bus Station and the Ellenbrook Town Centre, via Aveley East.
This new route would provide a more convenient public transport option for Aveley residents, east of the existing Route 337.
The service is proposed to operate Monday to Saturday at the following times:
Every 20 minutes during weekday peak periods
Every 60 minutes during off peak weekdays and on Saturdays.
Services would be timed to formally connect with Route 955 buses to Bassendean Station at Henley Brook Bus Station.

Re: PTA / Transperth Service Changes - 2020
The only one of these I have any real interest in is the proposed Route 233.
I would imagine there will be some pushback by Gosnells residents moving them onto the 231/232 because of the re-alignment of the 210 and 211.
As for the 233, I would imagine proposed alternate route through Piara Waters via Greywacke/Aspiri/Fanshawe instead of Armadale Rd would be favoured by locals as it would entail less of a walk and not having to cross Armadale Rd to access. This section was used as a deviation for the 519 during the Armadale Rd upgrade over the past year.
I had a look at the proposed 338 and whilst I feel it's a good addition to the Aveley area, I suspect it will suffer from the same poor off peak loadings as seen by the current 334 and 336 - in fact there were reductions to service levels of these routes in August due to poor patronage. I would imagine it would be hoped to increase once the train makes it to Ellenbrook. Time will tell.

The aforementioned changes have been compiled into a single page on the Transperth Website: Proposed Bus Service Changes
As with busdriver12, I think the Greywacke/Aspiri/Fanshawe route of the 233 would be preferred among residents, being closer in proximity to houses as well as having now direct access to Aspiri Primary School.

Re: PTA / Transperth Service Changes - 2020
The change to create a 148 via Melville SHS is an interesting step, particularly given there is no mention of the existing extended 500 service being deleted. It presently connects with the 766 School Special (or is at least supposed to).
Prior to the changes that saw the 766 truncated to Booragoon, to connect with a 500 extending to Fremantle via the 158 route, the 766 used to travel from Melville SHS to Canning Hwy/Irwin St (the next stop after Stammers) via Potts St, L Leach Hwy, L North Lake Rd, R Hislop Rd, L Wichmann Rd, L Roberts Rd, L Moreing Rd, R Lutey St, L Stock Rd, R Canning Hwy. This old service seemed relatively busy, whereas the 500 only carries the odd student and worker from the shops. Perhaps this new 148, being a more direct service that does away with the transfer mid-journey will attract greater patronage.
I imagine the extra routes out of Cockburn will be welcomed, the only issue I can see is with added congestion around Cockburn Gateway. The placement of the stand for services inbound to Cockburn is inappropriate, and encourages just one bus to load/unload at a time. There is also the more general problem of congestion around the shopping centre - services outbound from Cockburn often experience heavy delays during peak periods due to the sheer volume of cars coming in and out of the area.
