EVERY Adelaide Metro Route
EVERY Adelaide Metro Route
Hey everyone, tomorrow I will be starting out on a journey covering every non-school bus, train and the lone tram route (Adelaide Metro). I'm not sure how long it'll take but there will be updates most likely every day. Also a great opportunity for photos

Re: EVERY Adelaide Metro Route
Geez, good luck with that. Especially with routes like the 850, where there is no return.
Time to ask about technicalities: does it include all shortworkings as well, does it require you to travel End-to-end on each route, and do school day only workings (such as the 894H) count as well?
Looking forward to the story though!

First person on 822, 865 (2016 re-route).
Last person on 164, 867, 868

Re: EVERY Adelaide Metro Route
Yes it does include all of the shortworkings and requires me to travel end-to-end. The 894H is an interesting one I haven't quite decided on yet though. And yes the story should be interesting as anything could happen. . Btw tomorrow it's probably going to be the 8:41 M44 from Marion to startLt. Commander Data wrote:Geez, good luck with that. Re: EVERY Adelaide Metro Route
That sounds like a lot of time you'll be spending on CB80s.
What are your plans for get back to Adelaide after catching routes like the 850, 830F, 737 etc that finish with no convenient return options? And how to you plan to get Macclesfield at 6:45 in the morning to make the only inbound 850?
Also, will you be catching routes like the H22L after catching the H22 to Henley Beach? What are your plans for routes like the 721 and 721R? Also, what about routes like the H20R, 176G etc, which only run at certain times? Also you'll need to get to Elizabeth Interchange by 7:29 to catch the last 900 to Salisbury. However, it'd be better to catch the first one, so you can make the train to get to Elizabeth to catch the last inbound 500.
There are other routes which may be difficult for you to make in the morning such as the G22X. The last inbound leaves Aberfoyle Hub at 7:37AM. Anyhow, keep us updated, and stay safe.

Re: EVERY Adelaide Metro Route
Luckily my grandparents live in Nairne so whenever I'm on a hills route with no convenient return, I can be picked up by them. 737 is one I haven't thought of yet. And yes I have a feeling it will be dominated by CB80s.

This whole process will most likely end up being extremely difficult but I think the key is planning. If a set out a day to catch one difficult route at a time then I can take the time to travel to places such as Elizabeth Interchange early in the morning. BTW, I've never quite understood the 900, it seems really weird to run a service twice in the morning then never again around mainly rural roads. I most likely will catch the first 900 and do what you suggested as that would free up some time more for the 500.
Re: EVERY Adelaide Metro Route
Also I will not be riding after midnight specific services
Re: EVERY Adelaide Metro Route
The last G22X leaving Aberfoyle Hub to the City departs at 747am.TA3001 wrote:That sounds like a lot of time you'll be spending on CB80s.

Re: EVERY Adelaide Metro Route
I wish you luck. Have you thought of routes like 451A from Elizabeth?
What would you do with the 225? From Salisbury you have 225 to Gepps Cross, 225X to the city, 225F to the city and 225M to Mawson Interchange. Will you ride all 4 services?
Will you ride the 400A from Salisbury North to Salisbury?

Re: EVERY Adelaide Metro Route
One direction or both directions for each route?
Re: EVERY Adelaide Metro Route
It will be one direction for routes that don't alter their path. For routes like the 265 that change both ways, it will be two-way. Sometimes it will be convenient to ride the route twice but that won't count towards anything.Eagle Eye wrote:One direction or both directions for each route?

Re: EVERY Adelaide Metro Route
If you're going to call the 265 up and down as different routes you might be opening up a can of worms. Thinking Torrens routes, 350, J7, J8, 286, 287, H33,190 immediately spring to mind, possibly others.

Re: EVERY Adelaide Metro Route
A gunzel's suggestion if I could - when doing the 421, take your hiking shoes. I suggest getting back to the RAAF Base, turning right, and walk north. Use your GPS to find the 451 route.
Or, just sit around old Penfield No 3 Railway Station all day for the return trip!!

Re: EVERY Adelaide Metro Route
I will be interested on how you will cover routes such as 724, 721L and some of the other odd services down south.
I suggest doing the 733G on a Saturday night. You don't have that long of a wait at the top of the hill for the N721.

Re: EVERY Adelaide Metro Route
Would you call the 225 around Mawson Lakes two separate buses. Around UniSA and the western side of Mawson Interchange, the route does separate a little.
You can say the same about the 501, 565 and make a strong argument about the 411/411U.

Re: EVERY Adelaide Metro Route
I'm interested about the 865 and 866 classing. Both have many variations.
For the 865 you have:
865 Aldgate to City
865 Aldgate to Stirling
865C Stirling to Crafers
865 City to Aldgate (becuase they have different routes in Stirling and Crafers, I assume they count twice?)
865 Stirling to Aldgate
865S Crafers to Stirling
And then the 866:
866 Stirling (36A) to Crafers
866 Stirling (36) to Crafers
866 Stirling (36A) to Stirling (anticlockwise)
866 Stirling (36) to Stirling (clockwise)
866A Stirling (36A) to Crafers
866 Crafers to Stirling
866A Crafers to Stirling
866R Crafers to Stirling
As you can see, many many stupid variations with no way to tell the difference other than the timetable. There's also the 821 to consider, which has two different termini in Carey Gully (25A Greenhill Road and 26B Rangeview Drive).
For the 865 you have:
865 Aldgate to City
865 Aldgate to Stirling
865C Stirling to Crafers
865 City to Aldgate (becuase they have different routes in Stirling and Crafers, I assume they count twice?)
865 Stirling to Aldgate
865S Crafers to Stirling
And then the 866:
866 Stirling (36A) to Crafers
866 Stirling (36) to Crafers
866 Stirling (36A) to Stirling (anticlockwise)
866 Stirling (36) to Stirling (clockwise)
866A Stirling (36A) to Crafers
866 Crafers to Stirling
866A Crafers to Stirling
866R Crafers to Stirling
As you can see, many many stupid variations with no way to tell the difference other than the timetable. There's also the 821 to consider, which has two different termini in Carey Gully (25A Greenhill Road and 26B Rangeview Drive).
First person on 822, 865 (2016 re-route).
Last person on 164, 867, 868
Last person on 164, 867, 868
Re: EVERY Adelaide Metro Route
So with the 865 and 866, there's no letter or number variations that tell me exactly where the bus is going? I guess the timetable is the only way to go
Re: EVERY Adelaide Metro Route
I probably won't be able to ride any buses until tomorrow and that will be the 734S from Seaview High to Marion Interchange
Re: EVERY Adelaide Metro Route
The 557 up and down trip uses different roads at the top of Tea Tree Gully

Re: EVERY Adelaide Metro Route
The 400/224/560 use different roads on and off of John Rice Avenue too.
The 415 and 430 have a slightly different route around The Salisbury Hotel.
The 300/G10 have a different route just outside Flinders University
