I believe only 8 will be initially running from tomorrow, with another 4 added by the end of the year. However, I’m not 100% sure given the lack of information that I’ve seen be released and how things have changed over the course of the year re. bus tendering and fleet lists/movements.

You can add 1654, 1659 and 1660 to that list.

Good to see all 8 of the inital fleet out (but they’ve all gone back to the depot for off-peak :| ). However, the extra capacity with these bendies doesn’t really do much if it just sits in the same traffic as before... I’d upload screenshots of AnyTrip of citygliders running upwards of 15mins late this morning but the image limit won’t let me. Some service gaps of 11mins+ were experienced this morning due to late running and bunching (that was just at a random look I had-probably were larger gaps at other times). Simply not good enough hey TransLink?

Are there any systems in place for bunched-up services to proceed out of service to their next trip to try and even out the headway?

A couple of options that could be considered to improve reliability of the Blue Glider and hopefully reduce bunching of services:

- Replace Valley Island Stop 216 with All Hallows Stop 218 so buses don't have to cross three lanes of Ann Street and then wait for lights at Gotha Street to go back across Ann Street.
- Run the southbound service along Ann Street using the existing buslane rather than going along Adelaide Street

That Valley island stop needs to go ASAP. That would then make running a bus lane down the length Ann street so much easier. Also when exiting the busway to merge onto the correct side of Melbourne st southbound (@ Merivale Street) needs to have the b-light going green after every general traffic cycle if a bus is waiting (e.g Melbourne st green, bus green, merivale st green, bus green, repeat).

The new artics on route 60 seem very responsive to spirited driving. Are they B8s?

B8RLEA's, just like 1631 to 1650.

Cheers!
Officially the last person to tag off the 381 - 20/5/16.
Second last person to tag off the last timetabled 16 - 23/08/19.
Last person to tag off a Transdev Joondalup service - 19/1/20.

The B8RLEA is a phenomenally powerful bus (so much so they can loose traction in the wet). That an 8L engine can produce such good power and torque figures right across the rev range speaks volumes as to how far internal combustion engines have come even in the last decade.

S1653 and S1662 are now E1653 and E1662, and are part of the CityGlider fleet.

That's a pity. Aside from electronic systems to manage headway (although there is precious little information on what they actually do!), these Gliders could also been monitored by Traffic Control, and have a bus waiting to commence a trip 'stepped up' to an earlier trip to manage late running.
Drivers on the runs could also have their own facility for bus to bus communication to manage their bunching - drivers are usually quite proactive at working together when given the opportunity.

Is the issue variable running times, or is there insufficient layover space at the termini resulting in shifts having to be cut tight?

Good job of concealing the doors from view there. Aren't these buses all-door loading? There are supposed to be guidelines somewhere (even in DDA regs?) about highlighting visibility of doorways and thresholds, typically in a yellow or some sort of contrasting outline. People with visual constraints would find this a bit of a challenge.

This is the first I've heard about these 'guidelines'. Perth, Canberra, and Brisbane don't have doors outlined from the pics I have.

From what I see the front door is visible
If you were needing assistance I would assume to use the front door?
Assisted bosrding generally occurs at the front

You can usually see it on trams and trains, as well as many buses. The doors are a contrasting colour (from top to bottom) from the hull.

On a low-entry bus many people who might have some sort of impediment don't actually need assistance at the front door. They're perfectly capable of boarding at any door, as long as they can find/see it clearly.
