Eagle Farm (TradeCoast) Bus Depot

Post by daveeyh »

Thought I would start a thread on the progress of the new Brisbane Transport depot at Eagle Farm (40 Schneider Road at TradeCoast Central).

Early earthworks look to be continuing by the developer Adco - a reasonable size hole has already been dug.

The last photo is of the wash/refuel area and it doesn't seem to have progressed at all since last year.
However the depot area has gone ahead heaps, at this stage it all looks on target.

Is the large pond still at the eastern end next to the entry from Schneider Road?

I can't say - I took the photos from the Terminal Drive side of the site.

The "pond" will remain there as it is part of the runoff environmental protection system, during both construction and operation. There is a name for it, my mind is blank. It shouldn't have any water in it.

Won't be replacing it. They need it for capacity expansion.

Why has no bus companies invested in double deckers. That's all there is in the uk with single deckers complementing the dd fleet. What garage code will eagle farm get? E sounds ok.

My guess is that there aren't enough places they can actually access to make it worth doing. You wouldn't get them into QSBS for instance.

They will fit anywhere on the busway network except for Roma St to the QSBS as I understand it.

There are not many places they couldn't fit in Brisbane, but they aren't a decent fit for BT services given the operational contraint created by that tunnel.

Fortunately there are no such issues this way and there will be more deckers joining the fleet on the Gold Coast sometime soon.

They could use deckers on an overground network on services which don't use the tunnels surely?? Places like Virginia could use these as their fleet does seem pretty old compared to others in the BT fleet.

There is no point introducing a double-decker bus into BT as the only places that would require a HCV such as that cannot be accessed by it.

As for other operators, 2 already operate them, and any more is up to funding from the state government.

Add the Northern Busway.

What's the clearance height on a double decker? I'd be surprised if they could fit in any of the busway tunnels.

4.3m. No trouble fitting anywhere on the SEB.

In the UK they did range from 13'6 to 14'3, even 14'6 on a few builds.

14'3" = 4.343m.
14'6" = 4.42m.

Not much higher.

You mean Sunbus and Surfside?

LCBS could use them on current routes, but what if LCBS services is put into the tunnel?
