Victorian Route & Timetable changes 2020

Post by Mike M »

A new bus network will be introduced in Horsham effective from 28 January 2020. Details of the routes & timetables are at the following link:

https://www.ptv.vic.gov.au/footer/about ... s-network/

Of particular interest is Route 5 which will provide a connection between the Overland train & City Centre on Monday, Tuesday, Friday & Saturday. This has the potential to be one of the shortest lived bus services ever introduced!

Route 605 has had it's third terminus change in just two and a half years.

The route has been further extended up Queen Street to the corner of Queen & A'Beckett Streets due to recent works on William Street making the old Flagstaff Station terminus redundant.

Stawell, near Horsham, is also getting a revamp of it's bus network, coming into effect on the 2nd of March

New network is 2 routes, with Saturday services for the first time.

There are substantial cuts to Skybus services due to the Coronavirus outbreak and subsequent reduced demand for air travel.

Many of the suburban routes will operate on a weekend timetable.

Skybus Link & Avalon - Geelong are suspended until further notice.

From Sunday 22 March 2020.

With the early finish of the Overland & the almost certainty that it won't return even when the IP & Ghan do then route 5 will be withdrawn giving it a life of just under 2 months.

A revised bus network will start in the Keilor East area in July. Route 475 and 501 will go. There will be a new Route 469 and altered 476.

https://www.premier.vic.gov.au/better-b ... assengers/

Above mentions 476 terminating at Watergardens, but given nothing about what will serve Plumpton is said this may be incorrect.

Background here. https://getinvolved.transport.vic.gov.au/KeilorEast

The 475 and 501 had quirks in that they were two of the last few remaining bus routes to have reduced frequency summer timetables.

A new Endeavour Hills bus network will start at the end of May 2020.

Some details here: https://www.ptv.vic.gov.au/footer/about ... rren-north

The changes remove one route but as a trade-off improve operating hours and frequencies on the others which have undergone some revision. There is also a direct Heatherton Rd route to serve Dandenong Hospital & Chisholm TAFE.

More discussion on this in these blog posts.

Route 704 got an extension to Westall Station and increased frequency from 17 May. Peak services now run every 30 minutes and interpeak 40 minutes. There is also new weekend service with a 40 minute frequency provided until 9pm.

The announcement for this is here: https://www.ptv.vic.gov.au/footer/about ... l-station/

704 is a very quiet route getting around 50 000 passengers per year. Not much of it offers unique coverage of a residential area. One could argue that the resources that went into its upgrade could have benefited more passengers if put towards boosting popular routes such as the 733 and/or the 800. Improvements for buses in the Caroline Springs area have been announced. They will start on July 12, 2020.

Route 462 will be extended to Caroline Springs Station. It will get a major frequency boost from worse than hourly to every 40 minutes off-peak and 20 minutes peak. This will feed trains at both Watergardens and Caroline Springs.

Revisions are also being made to 460's timetable. It is hoped that these will improve connections with trains and make the timetable more regular.

More here: https://www.premier.vic.gov.au/better-p ... e-springs/

Some earlier background to the Caroline Springs changes, including an earlier proposal to extend the 462 to Deer Park, is here: http://bcsv.org.au/vm/2017-caroline-spr ... k-changes/

There will be changes to buses in the Essendon / Broadmeadows / Greenvale area from Sunday 14 June 2020.

These include 477 being extended to divert into the shopping centre at Essendon Fields. Another change has it operating into Cambridge Gardens estate. 477 will also get a Sunday service upgrade from every 60 minutes to every 40 minutes.

484 and 543 will also have some changes to accommodate school services and timetable changes. More here:

http://www.rosspence.com.au/media-relea ... gardens-2/

Some earlier background to the 477 change is here: https://getinvolved.transport.vic.gov.au/EssendonFields

News of deletion of 475 & 501, shortening of 476 and new 463 and 469 from 12 July 2020.

https://www.ptv.vic.gov.au/footer/about ... nd-niddrie

Improved bus services around Keilor East and Niddrie
From Sunday 12 July, the Keilor East bus network will change and includes a bus service to Valley Lake estate for the first time. Other changes include:

Route 501/469
Route 501 Moonee Ponds to Niddrie via Strathmore will be renamed Route 469 Moonee Ponds to Keilor East via Airport West. Route 469 will continue to travel along its existing route alignment of Moonee Ponds bus interchange, Essendon Station and Niddrie bus interchange. It will extend along Keilor Road to Valley Lake estate and will terminate at Milleara Shopping Centre, which has been upgraded to form a two-way service around the shopping centre.

Passenger drop-off and pick-up points for Route 469 at Milleara Shopping Centre will also change. In the direction of Milleara Shopping Centre, Route 469 will stop at the bus interchange on Milleara Road as a drop-off point only. The route will now terminate at the new stop location on Amis Crescent and passengers travelling from Milleara Shopping Centre can use this stop for their journey.

Route 476/469/475
Route 476 Moonee Ponds to Watergardens will run via Hoffmans Road and Mary Street and terminate at Watergardens Station.

Route 475 Moonee Ponds to East Keilor via Niddrie will be replaced by Route 469 and the realigned Route 476, reducing duplication to make better use of buses. These changes will improve access to shopping centres, Essendon Station and the Moonee Ponds bus interchange.

Route 463
New Route 463 Watergardens to Hillside will be introduced to replace Route 476 between Watergardens and Plumpton/Hillside to give residents west of Watergardens Station a more reliable service and improve connections to trains.

The new timetables for routes 463, 469 and 476 and are available online and in Journey planner. To order a printed copy of a timetable, call 1800 800 007.

A change I didn't mention before was a small route change in Dandenong for Route 800. This started on May 31. Details here: https://www.ptv.vic.gov.au/footer/about ... ren-north/

Route 800 will now service Vision Australia in Dandenong after two new stops were constructed. The route will now travel along Hemmings Street and turn right into Mason Street. Stops on Pickett Street and Scott Street will no longer be serviced.

Yep; the 861 has joined the Cleeland St gang.
Oh, and you mentioned one route getting shaved off; the 849 had his death sentence read out.

Strictly speaking this should be in 2021 as that's when the services are starting.

Anyway here's an item about the new 888 & 889 (note recycled route number) between Berwick and Clyde/Clyde North.

https://melbourneontransit.blogspot.com ... orths.html

888 will run hourly and 889 every 40 minutes. 889 will be staggered to provide a 20 min combined service on Clyde Rd with 899.

More detail of Routes 152 and 182 have come out with service specifications on the Tenders Vic website.

Both will run every 40 min off-peak and weekends to standard hours. 152 will run every 30 min in peaks while 182 will be every 20 min in peaks.
The latter will give Tarneit Rd north from Werribee a frequent peak service in conjunction with Route 180.

Large parts of Davis Rd will get new coverage with the 182. Leakes Rd and Bolivar Esp will get new coverage from 152.

Some small changes in October / November 2020, mostly in the outer northern/north east suburbs.

* Route 511 more trips. https://www.ptv.vic.gov.au/footer/about ... e-changes/
The above is vague on this but the new timetable is online. The number of trips increases from 1 each way to 3 or 4 each way. There will be a routing change with it connecting to trains at Donnybrook not Craigieburn.

* Route 525 route change due to Donnybrook bus interchange completion. https://www.ptv.vic.gov.au/footer/about ... route-525/

* Kilmore / Wallan. Revised routes with pre and post 5pm networks and buses that wait with trains after 5pm. New Link brand. Some buses to have numbers, others to have letters. https://www.ptv.vic.gov.au/footer/about ... nd-wallan/

* 343 578 579 580 582 changes https://www.ptv.vic.gov.au/footer/about ... eek-buses/ Possibly the most notable is that the 582 gets later weeknight trips with service every 20 min approx until approx 10pm. There are good connections with arriving trains at Eltham.

Timetable changes for tram routes 12, 30, 35, 86, 96 & 109 from 8 November 2020.

https://www.ptv.vic.gov.au/footer/about ... 6-and-109/

The most interesting part of these changes is the introduction of E class trams on route 30. You to have wonder if the idea of using them on route 58 has been quietly dropped?

They state that information is on the PTV website but I couldn't find it.
