LONG LIVE THE VOV1!yoda wrote:Another update.... my assumptions were wrong.
112 and 138 are BOTH returning to Hobart's streets! 139 will be transferred shortly and join them too!
Why oh why can't Metro at least keep those two in service? Keep them as heritage buses doing city circles or something... It could be fantastic, just like the W class trams in Melbourne.

Ohhhh, I don't think they are THAT old Matt Unfortunately, THAT IDEA would NEVER happen here in Tassie. NO INTEREST in transport history by ANY Government Department. Only ONE we DID have, was Darlene, but she was a lone voice.sharp77 wrote:Why oh why can't Metro at least keep those two in service? Keep them as heritage buses doing city circles or something... Only other option (which is coming to fruition) will be TRC's Flxible Clipper (when complete). ALL other private companies are only in their infancy nowdays, as the old guard have passed on
BUT, we live in HOPE, that one day, the Government will realise the tourism benefit of HISTORIC public transport plying the streets with PAYING passengers again. We certainly tried with the Clipper display, and look how much interest THAT generated, however, don't know how many pollies actually made their way down to see it (they should have been there, there were TV cameras)

While on the subject of bus bodies, the Bedfords and the AEC's that had the Ansair body were also solid so it would seem the Ansair suited Tasmanian conditions. The CAC bodied Volvo B58's were not the Quality of the Comair Bedfords in the mid 60's. The Freighter BT51's and Bedford's weren't bad and lasted for years.CBW bodied Bedfords travelled well with very little rattles again made in Tassie as were the most of the Freighter Bedfords and Hino's except for the last batch of Hino's.I think the most rattles prize would have to go to the Smithfield Volvo's and seeing that Smithfield ended up going to Custom the tradition continues
