I noticed on Tripview last night that there looked to be a quite intensive frequency of additional B1/BN1 services running from Wynyard or North Sydney to Mona Vale during the early hours of this morning, around one trip every 4 minutes.

Surprised that given the current lockdown in the Northern Beaches that these additional trips weren't cancelled, seeing as there would have been extremely few people with legitimate reason to be using those services.

Perhaps this should be the last STA Observations thread as STA is due to be privatised by the end of the year?
Perhaps we should discuss what observations thread is required for buses going forward.

I suspect each of the three regions to be transferred will have its own thread for that subject including which buses are being included in each.
But I suspect that by the time the network changes have place early next year in with their associated fleet transfers, the region fleets will then pretty much consist of what is going to be transferred with each region except for some new buses to come and some buses to be retired.

STA will remain as an operating entity until at least March 2022, and if history is anything to go by, that will slip. So will still be appropriate to have an STA 2022 thread until the last region is transferred.

If there only one or two regions left at the beginning of 2022, I can see why they should still keep their own thread when others like Transdev with three regions dont have their own thread.

Some fleet changes that have occurred over the past few days.

Randwick has lost its 7 Ivecos (2696-2702) to Mona Vale in exchange for 7 Voith Euro 5 B12s (1876-1882)

Waverley has lost 7 of its CNG Merc O500s (2123, 2125-2127, 2141-2143) to Ryde in exchange for 7 ZF Euro 5 B12s (2022-2023, 2033, 2035-2036, 2046-2047). These B12s have Cooltek air con units, which is a first for Waverley, who's other 35 B12s have Thermo King air con units.

Mona Vale has lost 5 B10s (3889-3893) and a B12 artic (1731) to Brookvale.

More odd numbered VSTs are on their way from TSA over to Mona Vale, with 2801, 2803, 2805, 2807, 2809 and 2823 understood to be the next to return to STA.

These transfers from TSA to STA and vice versa, make it seem there's been no changes to the fact that Region 6 has been franchised out. Or have the transfers between R6 and other regions simply been far more convenient than other regions?

As all these buses are on lease, it should be quite easy to transfer buses between regions of different operators. In the case of region 6 it may be that the wording of the contract makes this more feasible.

TfNSW hold the head leases with the finance companies and then sub-lease to the operators. Most likely way that the contract is written is that TfNSW is obliged to make available the number of buses the operator requires that comply with the average and maximum age provisions, but ultimately has the discretion to reallocate resources as it sees fit.

There would have been a schedule of the individual buses leased when the contract was signed. This would be reconciled monthly to reflect additions and withdrawals, so the transfer of a few buses in or out to other regions wouldn't be a big deal.

Finally the Iveco’s will see somewhere else in Sydney. I felt that Randwick didn’t really like them - you’d almost never see the Iveco’s on off peak, weekends, or even overnight services.

Ah yes, TSA, offload the STA-spec Bustech Scania back to STA, while TSA is still receiving new deliveries. Seems like even they caught on how bad those buses really were lol

Noticing a route 200 bus at St Leonards heading towards the city this afternoon with "CITY - Macquarie St" as the destination (must be recently introduced!) which I am guessing could be related to the Harbour Bridge works.
It looked like a Willoughby bus doing the run I saw (was one of the low floor Scanias).

Interestingly, said services run almost all day (every 10 minutes at times!), start from/terminate at Chatswood, and run to the same "limited stops" as the current route 200 does.
Now when was the last time route 200 ran all day... and could it be a sign of what they do with the 200 after they cut it back to Gore Hill.
"It's my way or the (side of the) highway".
Might be a way to lead life, but more like the way that some people drive.

CITY Martin Place destination was created in 2015, I don't know when it was tweaked to say 'Macquarie St'.

There are also extra short-working 340s btwn Chatswood Stn and Wynyard + 343s btwn Chatswood Stn and Martin Place operating regularly throughout the day.

Why are MAN double deckers showing on Anytrip today as running services on 270 and 271? Have I missed something?

Yup, that they are operated by Forest Coach Lines, not State Transit.

I'm not a Sydney expert but I'm pretty sure 270 & 271 are Forest Coachlines routes & they do have about 6 MAN ND323F's on Gemilang Eco Double Decker bodies. That would possibly explain why your seeing them on 270 & 271.

So their not STA buses, they run from Forest Coachlines depot.

Thanks for clearing that up. I didn't know anybody operated MAN Gemilang deckers other than STA.

There is another small bunch of Transit Systems buses that have just arrived to STA fleet yard at Leichhardt. Scania K310UB Volgren bodies buses in the 29## series formerly at Kingsgrove Depot.

Still seem to be mostly artic at the moment. They must be supplementary buses because of the fine weather.
