I tend to think of it more as what happens when you let the architects in to "make something pretty." Pretty typical end result - with the function of the building compromised.tonyp wrote: ↑Sat May 01, 2021 9:31 am I did make this observation to myself when the plans were originally publicised. It's one of those captain obvious issues in designing buildings, but presumably not to those first-year-out work experience students they got to design the job in order to save money. I'm off to buy shares in a company producing blackout shades.

Re: NSW Railway Observations 2021
Let's just create a big black box.
Stuff it full of led lights, and claim we're using green power then.
Whenever you have natural light you'll get a few minutes of direct sun at various angles.
Personally don't see the louvres as cheap.
A flat glass or gyprock wall would be much cheaper, but then you'd probably have to add lots of fans or a/x for airflow.
My main issue with the signs is they are facing the wrong way..
The vast bulk of them (which are about suburban services) should be on the other side.

Surely the offending louvres can be tinted or painted over without compromising air flow?

T1 North Shore, T1 Western, T2 Inner West & Leppington, T3 Bankstown, T4 Eastern Suburbs & Illawarra, T8 Airport & South, T9 Northern, Central Coast & Newcastle, Blue Mountains and South Coast lines
UPDATED 5 May 13:15

Details
Allow plenty of extra travel time after an earlier police operation at Town Hall. Listen to announcements and check information displays for service updates as stopping patterns may change at short notice and buses may supplement some services.
I picked up one T3 train running 99 minutes late with may other T3 and T4 trains over an hour late.

Appears there is an Oscar on the Penrith line today in service between Penrith and Blacktown which is unusual normally they run express to Blacktown. It will work the 3:11 departure to Wyong arriving 6:14

Fire & Rescue NSW has taken delivery of half a C set (C-3581 and T-4272) at its Training Academy in Orchard Hills. They will be used for training in rail rescue scenarios.

The offending louvres change every 5min.
The reality is this will only be an issue for a small afternoon window a few months a year.

They do this if there are delays on regular T1 services getting to Penrith. Sometimes BMT services will get some extra stops between Penrith and Blacktown, for the same reason. Mainly to clear the Uni students from Kingswood.Stonesourscotty wrote: ↑Thu May 06, 2021 12:23 pm Appears there is an Oscar on the Penrith line today in service between Penrith and Blacktown which is unusual normally they run express to Blacktown. Re: NSW Railway Observations 2021
I did an immediate interchange from an A set to a B set tonight, and wow, I really have to comment - the B sets are too bright inside.
Now I’m not sure if the A sets lighting have gotten dimmer with age, but yeah I don’t recall them ever being that bad, I just noticed upfront the B sets are too bright, you can hardly see anything out the window at night between stations and its a bit hard on the eyes. Very much hope this same issue isn’t present with the New Intercity Fleet D sets of having interior lighting that is excessively bright, I guess we’ll find out soon. The current OSCars and V sets have lighting thats set at a very comfortable level at night time.

Re: NSW Railway Observations 2021
Yes agree with that - they are noticeably too bright
Re: NSW Railway Observations 2021
If you see the two trains from a distance during the night you can see that the A has a warm, yellower light whereas the B’s have a searing blue-white that illuminates the whole corridor.

Re: NSW Railway Observations 2021
Trackwork this weekend has bustitution between Strathfield and Lidcombe affecting T1 and T2 services. BMT services have bus from Central to Blacktown.
A 30 minute service to Penrith is operating via Bankstown. Yesterday's timetables showed them as being T3 runs, today they are T1 runs.
While searching options to get from Central to Granville, one suggestion was to catch the bus to Blacktown, then a T1 back to Granville.

A 4 car Tamgara is operating T5 services this afternoon, which is unusual on both fronts.

Re: NSW Railway Observations 2021
It’s would of been most likely subbing for a M set witch means there is a spare 4 car Tangara floating around somewhere ether also on T5 services or sitting in the maintenance centre waiting to replace a faulty 4 car set
Re: NSW Railway Observations 2021
Just for the record, there is an odd number of 4car T sets in the Fleet.
T1 to T54, T100 to T110 ......................... = Total sets 65
T57 to T99, T121, T122, T125 to T130 ........ = Total sets 46 (Note, no sets: T66, T82, T84, T85, T87)
Current Weekday Timetable requirements:-
Number of sets for Sector 1 (T4 services) .......... = 58 (29 x 8car Rosters)
Number of sets for South Coast Shuttles ........... = 2 (2 x 4car Rosters)
Number of sets for Sector 3 (T1 & T9 services) ... = 34 (17 x 8car Rosters)
Total Spare or Repair sets = 17, plus 3 additional Driving Trailer Cars.

17 x 4 car sets if all marshalled into 8 car sets would result in 8 x 8 car sets, but when you put this into equation -
As we know, 2 x 8 car sets out of service due to being test bed for TTU upgrade which is running severely late
1 x 8 car that I’m aware off with a couple of sources indicating that 1 car set is now being upgraded to become another TTU train
Which leaves 5 set spare, but remember those are needed for help out with maintenance schedules between Hornsby and Mortdale.
In my opinion, it’s pretty tight with all things considered, especially when trains break down or being used for ATP test train which I haven’t taken into consideration because I’m not sure if there’s any left aside

There is a mouse plague in western NSW at the moment so what happens if large numbers of mice enter the rail corridor or some of the mice some how find a way to enter a passenger service
Admin - I assume you mean plague and not plaque.
