One observation from the new HIllsbus map is that they seem to have included NightRide services they operate (such as N70 and N71).

Re: Private Bus Observations 2021
That is interesting considering NightRide buses only stop at designated station stops, not necessarily known if you are just looking at the map.marcnut1996 wrote: ↑Fri Oct 22, 2021 9:55 am https://www.cdcbus.com.au/images/files/ ... rk_Map.pdf

Re: Private Bus Observations 2021
Few unusual 774 buses these past 2 days 821 on Lates 1077 during the morning peak 1197 on Lates and a Unidentified Tfnsw liveried Custom highfloor bus on during the day today which just left Mt druitt 5 mins ago.
When 821 was at Penrith I never once saw it on Lates in the 2 and a bit years I saw of it.

It appears Transit System's 1348 has been involved in a fatal accident on the T-Way, at Warren Rd Smithfield. Just seen it on a facebook post, local to the area.
Cheers!

Now that the Nightride routes are part of the region contracts, it does make some sense.Aurora wrote: ↑Fri Oct 22, 2021 1:03 pmThat is interesting considering NightRide buses only stop at designated station stops, not necessarily known if you are just looking at the map.marcnut1996 wrote: ↑Fri Oct 22, 2021 9:55 am https://www.cdcbus.com.au/images/files/ ... rk_Map.pdf

Re: Private Bus Observations 2021
Bus Accident tonight at Sandgate, a relative of mine saw it (the aftermath) but their not bus people so I couldn't get any details out of them, I suspect a Hunter Valley Bus may have been involved as it is the only service bus to use that part of the road? If it was a Hunter Valley bus a Volvo B7RLE Volgren CR228L may have been involved according to Anytrip timetable data.

Re: Private Bus Observations 2021
The network map seems to be an advance as it ghosts in services provided by operators of adjacent regions. Or is this only because it's an ex STA map?

Where's the information about no fare (Opal Card tap on/single bus ticket) required if wearing a halloween costume with no mask?

Dated January 2021 it would not be a Keolis Downer map.tonyp wrote: ↑Sun Oct 31, 2021 3:42 pm The network map seems to be an advance as it ghosts in services provided by operators of adjacent regions. Or is this only because it's an ex STA map?

Re: Private Bus Observations 2021
Tony, this was the map originally produced to support the new network changes in Region 8 back in December of last year rather than simply a "business as usual" Sydney transport map - which might explain why a more... customer and network focused... approach was taken to the information on the map (highlighting frequency/types of service, including all routes regardless of operator etc).Fleet Lists wrote: ↑Sun Oct 31, 2021 4:18 pmDated January 2021 it would not be a Keolis Downer map.tonyp wrote: ↑Sun Oct 31, 2021 3:42 pm The network map seems to be an advance as it ghosts in services provided by operators of adjacent regions. Hope this spreads to the other regions.

My goodness, NSW actually trying something new to improve the public's comprehension. Christmas has arrived early.

Re: Private Bus Observations 2021
I’m curious to see if over time the new Northern Beaches operator Keolis will show similar passive disdain towards the inherited bendy bus fleet the same way Transit Systems did when they took over the inner west from STA

Re: Private Bus Observations 2021
Vote Liberal, vote inferior private companies running services like they're a business, not the service they are.
Conservatives are inherently against government providing services but the democratic process forces them to do it like this.
They will eventually sell off the depots next.

Re: Private Bus Observations 2021
Assuming the overseeing body (TfNSW) keep an eye on patronage, and put in place contractual mandates for articulated buses, that "disdain" (my own experience suggest it's simply just laziness, and a lack of thinking outside the box) can be mitigated. It's up to the public, however, to keep the pressure up if they feel overcrowding is reaching excessive levels.
Unfortunately this has had to happen in Perth with the busiest route (950) having a mandate in place for weekday trips. Even Blind Freddy could've told the operators the rigids were not coping at all... But no, one busy school run, on a short half of a split was "much more" important. Unfortunately, outside the 950, this is still a problem despite there being routes that could utilise the extra capacity.

Re: Private Bus Observations 2021
Why are private operators so stuck in their ways?
Sydney's STA was hardly a dynamic and innovative organisation -though really an instrument of the state's whims - but it seems the change over to private contractors hasn't resulted in overall improvement, and some negatives in some cases.
TSA improved services out west very successfully when they took over despite naysayers. It doesn't seem to have been the case in region 6 however, with some newsworthy incidents and the efforts to avoid artic use when they're the obvious solution on many routes.
It's mainly down to the overseeing body however, and it's up to them to set the right conditions fit the contractors to deliver the quality of services.

Re: Private Bus Observations 2021
Reluctance to use the centre exit. Putting cost cutting before the passengers by trying to avoid use of bendies and trying to get rid of them after they inherited them, knowing they are very beneficial. An obsession with standardising on 12m buses for every situation.Glen wrote: ↑Thu Nov 04, 2021 1:22 amIn what way were you thinking of ?Swift wrote: ↑Wed Nov 03, 2021 11:21 pm Why are private operators so stuck in their ways?

I'm guessing the VSTMs will be hated by whoever takes on region 9.
