Re: Newcastle Bus Interchange opens
So I wonder what happens now with Old Newcastle Stations bus Terminus (One opposite customs house)
Might have to try and make it down on Sunday if I can and take a look at the New Bus Interchange.

Re: Newcastle Bus Interchange opens
All routes listed above have the new school holiday timetables which start on that day, showing Newcastle Interchange as their departure point in Newcastle. But not routes 23, 24, 26 and 28 which show that they operate via the Interchange in the route description. I guess they will continue to operate to/from stops outside the Interchange.

The new station map shows that those routes Fleetlists mentioned stop outside the interchange.

Re: Newcastle Bus Interchange opens
I thought all bus routes were going to run through this interchange, but they're almost entirely long-distance buses and the local routes are an inconvenient slog out into the nearby streets. What a fizzer.
Re: Newcastle Bus Interchange opens
Appears to beg several questions. Why does the 22 go in when the other local routes do not?
And while its hard to tell from looking at a map, is there room to extend the light rail tracks westward for any extension?

Wickham Bus Interchange opens
Here is the track. Note the poles in the background. They would be in the way if they wanted to extend the track. The other unused track is roughly where the fence is.
If they "really" wanted to extend the tram tracks they would've placed the three poles in the back like the one in the front. They would've also made sure that the drain in the distance wouldn't be in the way.
They can't add a platform that would be needed as the boundary of the bus interchange may get in the way.
Because it's the only Newcastle Transport (NT) route that started and ended at the former museum site. For some reason at the moment, they don't want NT buses going via the interchange when they don't start/end there.
But what happens when with trackwork buses when their will be lots of trackwork buses, since their is only one main bus stop, and only one for three bus routes, and only one set down stop. Their are only six bus layovers.
The waiting room with space for only 14 seated passengers in normal circumstances is at the set down only bus stop. The pick up bus stop is at the other end.
Here is a video showing where the waiting room is in relation to the platform/tram entrance/exit: https://youtu.be/PmoIgBjKIGk (Pause the video, and the pick up for all bus routes except three is in the front at Stand A. The waiting room is way at the other end a bit further on from the set down only stand.
Wouldn't it be more logical to have a waiting room at the pick up stand?
The first diagram showed a covered walkway between the platform and interchange, but it was then changed, and now the walkway is not covered.

Re: Newcastle Bus Interchange opens
I've seen the plans for the light rail and provision is made on that site for them to extend in a double track arc to the west of the bus terminus down to Hunter St.

Re: Newcastle Bus Interchange opens
^^ Tonyp, have you got a map that shows that?
But what about the platform that is needed for the other side as it will be in the way of part of the bus interchange and maybe part of the bus interchange entry/exit?
Here is the unused track marked in red. It goes under those fences.

Re: Newcastle Bus Interchange opens
I also raised the point with Transport for NSW that the timetables for the routes which stop outside the interchange are not listed in the Interchange list of bus routes for which timetables are shown. They replied that these stops are not considered part of the Interchange cluster and hence timetables are not shown.

Re: Newcastle Bus Interchange opens
^^ Fleet Lists, they're not considered part of the bus interchange even though they have "interchange" on the destination when they start/terminate at Marketown.
Re: Newcastle Bus Interchange opens
I think I saw it in an EIS or similar foundation document, but can't lay a finger on it right now.
Re: Newcastle Bus Interchange opens
The location of the westbound platform is actually currently covered by the hoarding for construction of the adjacent office building. The plaza and public space currently under construction between the station and building is designed with room for the platform.Newcastle Flyer wrote: ↑Tue Jul 07, 2020 10:56 pm ^^ Tonyp, have you got a map that shows that?
