With the decade finishing in 8 days there are some things that have happened with public transport in the last decade
Opening of the southern Sydney freight line
2011 Vote in of the first Liberal NSW government since 1995 and the creation of Transport For NSW
Delivery and commissioning of 102 Waratah trains
Opening of the south west rail link
Closure of the Newcastle rail line
Extension of the L1 light rail line
Rebranding of Cityrail and Country Link to Sydney Trains (Cityrail metropolitan) and NSW Trainlink (Cityrail intercity and Country Link)
Buslines group buying up operators in regional NSW
Withdrawal of S sets from service
The rollout and dismantlement of the free shuttle services
The withdrawal of the Sydney explorer/Bondi explorer tourist services
The introduction of the Opal card
Opening of Sydney Metro North West
Opening of the L2 section of the CBD and south east light rail
If there is anything that isn't in the list as there is so much that has happened in the in the last decade don't be scared to say what you can remember from the decade that was the 2010s

You're one year and eight days too early. The decade finishes on 31 December 2020. A decade starts with a year ending in one. Useful summary anyway as a dry run for the big party at the end of 2020!

I'll add a few more to the list I can think of
STA Newcastle operations were privatised
Newcastle Light rail opens. Operates between Newcastle Interchange and Newcastle Beach.
Withdrawal of the Scania Ansair Orana L113TRBL's from STA
The last of the PMC Bodied buses were withdrawn from STA
Transdev (Correct me if I'm wrong?) Was the last operator to operate a Mercedes-Benz CB20 bodied bus on public service routes in the Sydney region.
On going
Withdrawal of the STA & Transit Systems CNG Mercedes-Benz O405NH CC Citaro commences
Withdrawal of some STA & Transit Systems Scania L113CRL Ansair Orana buses commences.
Electric buses / Hybrids were becoming more common after 2018

Seeming phase out of Metrobus
Real-time apps (and before that text services)
First partial integration of single fares across modes in decades
Private operator for ferries

A decade can be any 10 year period.
The "2010s" decade started on 1/1/2010 and will finish on 31/12/2019. The 2020s decade will start on 1/1/2020.

I think Tony was talking about century. Centuries are like that, they begin with an 01 instead of 00. Like the 21st century began in 2001. But yeah nothing like that I know for decades.

Is 2020 a new decade?
The 2020s (pronounced "twenty-twenties" or "two thousand (and) twenties", shortened to "the '20s") is the upcoming decade in the Gregorian calendar that will begin on January 1, 2020, and will end on December 31, 2029.
So we dont have to wait another year.

I'm obviously being too mathematical thinking of decades as a 1/10 units of a century.

"The" xth decade (or century), eg the 2nd decade of the 21st century, starts with a year xxx1 and ends xxx0. So this 2nd decade indeed runs 2011-2020.
The 2010s, a much easier concept for most people to grasp, runs 2010-2019.
"A" decade (indefinite article, as opposed to definite article), is simply a timespan of 10 years, and can have any old alignment, eg 2015-04-11 to 2025-04-10.

Wait till you come across those people who call the 20th century the 1900s!
On topic I would have though it better to use the "mathematical" decade as the coalition came to power in 2011, so a review of a decade of their achievements would end in 2020.

If we were talking on-time running, 99% would be considered pretty good!

Likewise, a "century" can be any 100 year period. "20th century", "21st century" are historically defined 100 year periods.
A century can be anything to do with multiples of 100. Cricketers score "centuries" and they have nothing to do with dates at all. Alright, I don't think cricketers score decades though,

Geoff Boycott used to take decades to score a century.
