It was 2001 ST from Leichhardt if we're going by the fleet-lists. 2009 B12BLEA Volgren CR228L.

A little bit of hunting shows it to be 2001-ST, the class leader

If it's not a ZF, take it back!

Re: GLEBE POINT RD BUS FIRE.
Why it's the driver being treated like a hero? Surely there was plenty of warning. Stop bus, open doors, out.
How challenging is that??

Driver interviewed on one of the TV news, said smoke started coming out of dashboard.
Just 3 people on the bus, so big "save". At least driver did the right thing and evacuated the bus early.

Re: Parramatta Road Bus Fire
All buses should have a fire extinguisher. Did he use it?
It might have saved a 3/4 $million bus.

Re: Parramatta Road Bus Fire
The bus would have at least two extinguishers (one in the cab and one at the rear) . But they are small, and not much use if the fire is within the frame somewhere- it can be well advanced before it becomes noticeable inside.

Re: Parramatta Road Bus Fire
We should just be grateful no-one was hurt, who cares about a nearly fully depreciated tin box. May have been a less happy story if it had occurred when the bus had a heavier load outbound. Whether by good luck or good management, it came to rest in the centre lane, had it been in the kerbside lane, the multi-storey building adjacent may have gone up.
As anybody that has ever used a hand held fire extinguisher will attest, they will put out something created by a dropped cigarette, but anything stronger, forget it...fire wins.

Re: Parramatta Road Bus Fire
That is another good thing with the Mercedes dashes. They are isolated units suspended from the steering column. These new computer buses have to integrate everything into the front of the body so any hidden electrical fires get a chance to take hold while concealed inner all that cladding to make the bus look as car like as possible rather than the commercial vehicle that they are.
