If the launch shafts have an exhaust valve fitted to allow the pressure in front of the Maglev out then as long as the air pressure does not get below that of a plane interior at 6,000 ft the maglev would have less piston effect allowing it to reach greater speeds.

People could then enter the stations through a large airlock.

Thinking about it further, perhaps the tunnel could be kept at 11 psi (8,000 ft) while the train is slightly pressurised to 12 psi (6,000 ft) to ensure a complete seal and more comfort while the train has less tunnel resistance.

Some people do not believe a 14m diameter single tunnel driven with 20 hardrock TBM costing $200m each connecting Parrahub/Canberra airport allowing a 600km/h proven Japanese maglev would be done in five years for $20b.

From what I have read it is the tunnel that costs all the money in Japan https://scmaglev.jr-central-global.com/status/mountain/ and the track only costs the same as rails.

Regarding power usage it only uses more because it is going faster pushing more air but with only 11 psi and twice the cross sectional area using TBM and very little maintenance once built it should pay the running costs.

If Australia cannot build it now while still getting top dollar for iron ore it definitely would not in the future when mines close.

It says here http://www.scielo.br/scielo.php?script= ... 1000300001 in conclusions that the German Maglev should be OK with elevated guideway but I believe not only can you have 11 psi atmosphere in a single tunnel but there would be far less risk.

Because some people were worried about Parrahub being too small, it now is 300m x 336m high with each of the 5376 units being 600m2 with fresh air being drawn in.

The extra commercial space would cover the strata fees and some retirees may run a B&B to cover the $2m purchase cost.

Some of the 20,000 parking spaces would be used by residents/workers with commuters using the remainder and because it has four 10m wide boomgate free ramps leading to Church, Boundary, Inkermann and Landsdown it would not cause any traffic problems.

When a metro is connected to Sydney CBD and the proven 600km/h Japanese maglev is connected to Canberra it will be arguably the best value in Sydney.

Edit ramps are 10m wide and there is parking for 20,000 cars, sorry

I disagree mate because there are many comments by people that say that new malls should have residents, trains, buses and parking close by.

With many hotels empty now, it may be a good time for people to relocate temporarily to allow construction to start.

Hello

Without the purchase of land or construction and maintenance of service roads, bridges or fences in my opinion it would be just as cheap for 20 TBM to drive Parrahub/Canberra airport in five years.

It is easy to estimate the tunnel cost and the income per year but I do not know how much a single guideway plus proven 600km/h Japanese maglev shuttle train would cost if you could be so kind as to enlighten me please.

I wish I could speak any Chinese so even though the video is a bit average I hand it to them.

The more I look into it the more I believe China will have to use the EDS Japanese one rather than the EMS German one as it is cheaper to build and run, personally I do not think they will ever have sufficient clearance to go faster like in a tunnel completely in a at 11 psi (8,000) feet.

Just thinking about what a mess we made worldwide with different rail gauges and how cool it would be to have an international standard for maglev.

Actually if the Chinese use their high temperature super conducting magnets in the Japanese maglev with an international guideway from Parrahub to Canberra in a 11 psi tunnel it would be win, win, win.

With big tunnels containers could compete with planes on some routes overnight instead of maintanance.

I had an interesting conversation with a guy and we agreed that eventually America will have to become metric as most things it buys are ISO https://www.iso.org/home.html

Although there are advantages in competition I believe there are more in standardisation like ISO measurements or ISO containers.

To reduce tunnel resistance they made the Japanese maglev 20% smaller and the atmospheric tunnels 20% bigger but as westerners are generally bigger perhaps a worldwide ISO standard guideway also allowing ISO containers to be used would be better.

As my dear deceased brother used to say “if it is not delivered by 10am tradies will wait until the next day” and he would pay heaps to have freight taken Sydney/Melbourne overnight fast enough to allow delivery at 7am and as there is no need for maintenance with maglev perhaps containers can run overnight.

Perhaps it may be better to connect Sydney/Canberra in 20 minutes rather than expand Sydney in flood prone areas?

Is it because you do not think it would not stack up economically, you or some others do not like me or perhaps you do not like the shape.

Something you have never mentioned. Until you explain that they are two separate subjects as far as I am concerned.
If they are combined, it is likely to go to the Armchair Operator section which I know you are not keen on, but that is where it really belongs.

Absolutely nothing to do with economics, the shape or you personally.

The more I think about it the more sense it makes to connect Parrahub/Canberra rather than more housing in flood vulnerable areas.
