Executive Traveller Magazine is reporting today that Queensland based Alliance Airlines has acquired another 16 Embraer E190 jets, this lot from American Airlines (who retired them in April), on top of the 14 previously announced as acquired from Copa Airlines of Panama.

Also a good write up in today's Saturday Sydney Morning Herald business section on Regional Express (Rex) and their jet plans to take on Qantas and Virgin.

I did not expect this. Good on Alliance for taking this initiative to buy more aircraft, especially under unpredictable circumstances.

I bet this means some of its Fokker aircraft (and mind you, they are quite old) will soon head to retirement once the E190 jets head into service from next year.

Also an interesting observation is Cathay Pacific’s Boeing 777 heading into Hobart from Sydney for the first time this week (for freight reasons of course). Apparently this is will occur quite often for the time being (iirc 3 times a week HKG-SYD-HBA-MEL-HKG) until February next year.

I think both Alliance and Rex are taking advantage of some pretty good aircraft lease / purchase prices that are out there in the current aviation environment. Which reminds me of the old aviation quote: " How do you become a millionaire in the aviation industry ? Start off as a billionaire ! "

REX has taken up a 2nd Boeing 737. went to Jakarta for painting and then ferried to Brisbane, with rego VHRQC (previously VHVOP Virgin Australia)

Notice the slogan on the plane “Our Heart is in the country”

Someone suggested Rex's major interstate operation should be named City Express or Cex, but there is no doubt that the "C' would be pronounced as a soft C - ie. SEX!!!
So that was passed over.

You can find a clip on Youtube 'Rex Boeing 737 flies into Sydney Airport' of VH-RQC landing at Sydney and receiving the traditional water canon welcome.

That would be a brilliant bit of marketing.
