Re: New Scania Bustech Artic

P2250301 (002).jpg This is not an especially good photo, but it is the only reasonably decent photo I have taken of Singapore's artics, inthe new livery. There are only 40 artics in a fleet of over 6,000 buses, almost half of which are double deckers. This new livery, which is gradually being appli...

Re: New Scania Bustech Artic

While they are "adjusting things", perhaps they could send the artic back to Bustech for a repaint into a reasonable and professional livery. The paint scheme on the trailer section might have been devised in a primary school. The red flash is hideous, as is the small yellow area. This cur...

Re: ICONIC BLUE MOUNTAINS Explorer bus company CLOSES

Sad to see them suspend operations - they have run a great operation and supported the Sydney Bus Museum. Until the Covid-19 hit, their fleet was the best it had ever been, with the 4 ex Lothian Olympians and the 2 new BCI DD's.

A great shame.

Re: Lewis Bros Depot, Glynde

Looking at the outline again, perhaps the entrance/exit to and from Barnett Avenue, would involve demolishing the old bus maintenance shed - although from the plan/photo it may be that the building is no longer there.

Lewis Bros Depot, Glynde

The old Lewis Bros. Depot and Glynde Autowreckers premises are set to become a new Bunnings outlet, subject to approval. Glynde Autowreckers was part of the old Lewis Bros. Group. The whole site seems to be unused and looks derelict. From a site outline drawing, it would appear that the old bus cont...

Re: 38 years since end of SMR Steam and Tourist Potential

Yes, that sounds promising, although I have been to that region a few times (mainly for Bus NSW conferences), I am not really that familiar with the area.
Sydney and surrounding regions do have a large population base, which I can imagine would support several steam train/tourist operations.

A lot of the stations certainly need a good makeover, I wonder if the allocated amount is enough.

Re: 38 years since end of SMR Steam and Tourist Potential

The previous answer was spot on.

And it is worth remembering that the Zig-Zag railway is projected to re-open towards the end of this year and that line is particularly good for non-enthusiast people/passengers, which makes me wonder how a steam SMR would go.

Re: Scania K320UD double decker and Hino Double decker

Great reply, yes there are quite a few good restaurants along Glen Osmond Road, some with a good view of the passing traffic (buses!). On GO Road can be seen: Double deckers (our only 2 in route service) 14.5 mtr single deckers with Volgren bodies 12.3 and 11.3 mtre single deckers with Volgren and C...

Re: Scania K320UD double decker and Hino Double decker

Both 3401 and 3402 were definitely in service today - I was in a restaurant that faces Glen Osmond Road and both were travelling towards Mt Barker, about half to three quarters on an hour apart. From my observations the other day, the front destination display on 3402 is working, in fact it is very ...

Re: Scania K320UD double decker and Hino Double decker

It fascinates me that both deckers appear on rosters that include some journeys on our local all stops City - Glen Osmond route. The 861 is a fairly short route. About half an hour ago, I saw 3402 (the CDI) on a stopping service near the Parkside Hotel on Glen Osmond Road - I couldn't read the rear ...

Were all your trips on 3401? - if so, did you pass 3402 (The CDI) on your travels?, because it seems to circulate reasonably regularly.

Re: Forced labour use in China-sourced transportation products

Yes, I am sure we will carry on purchasing products from these companies, I just hope that the moral factor comes into it (rather than the pure profit motive) and that manufacturing reverts to their own countries - probably a hope that is in vain!

Re: Forced labour use in China-sourced transportation products

Thanks for this Tony, the more widely this is publicised, the better. As an example of the way things are going and multinationals being totally fixated in cost reduction, a lot of the major camera manufacturers have indeed transferred their manufacturing from Japan to China - I tend to keep older c...

Re: Bustech Discussion / Observations

Thanks for the comments, I think that the problem in Adelaide is that one configuration of artic is used for all types of routes (inner, outer, express etc.) but, honestly, it should be noted that with the possible exception of the o-bahn, few of the routes fall into the category of high turnover. D...

Re: Bustech Discussion / Observations

A strange looking beast, visually not helped by trying to adapt Adelaide's current livery to an artic - I am not a fan of the current livery. But what I really find rather disappointing is the low seating numbers - 59 for an 18 metre bus is honestly pathetic. Adelaide's original Volvo B58 and B10M P...

Re: The New Tram/Light Rail Line

I understand but, variable operating costs of two units vs. one should not be just brushed aside as minimal. As an accountant, I spent a number of years, analyzing in detail rigid 12 mtr buses vs. 18 mtr artics and the difference was quite substantial. With LRT's there would be the (individual) unit...
