Re: CM Valiants still doing the rounds.

There's a CL Valiant ute on the Movember ad right now, with a bonus weird-looking bus for good measure.

Re: Victorian Bus Observations 2023

I rode a 742 two days ago, Ventura's AI-generated PID announcements have been shortened to just the street name but the AI still can't distinguish some abbreviations. Ave rhymes with shave instead of being avenue Drive is D.R. (no longer "doctor"!) Place is P.L. Parade is P.D.E. Court is C...

Re: Victorian Bus Observations 2023

Randomly spotted Dysons 151 (CR222L) parked in suburbia in Ringwood yesterday. Apparently there were no parking spaces near the station during the rail replacement works so the driver had to find a side street and ended up half way down Bond St where the 742 normally runs. Unfortunately I couldn't s...

Re: Victorian Rail and Tram Observations 2023

Caught A1 257 on the 96 at 10:20 last night from Port Junction to Batman Park, got off after only two stops as it was a sardine can despite not even reaching the CBD yet (and the tram stopping at Crown wasn't the issue, it was already like that from the light rail). The 75 was much more comfortable ...

Every 40 minutes on Sundays. Why hasn't PTV realised that the only difference between Saturday and Sunday is the name of the day?

Re: Victorian Bus Observations 2023

Looks like Ventura might be installing PIDs in their buses. Rode 1262 yesterday on the 742 and it was announcing the stops in a unique voice (not the SmartBus voiceover). There is no next stop display however, just the announcements.

ScaniaGrenda: Exactly. An IQ3 is completely worthless to them, never mind an IQ3 that stinks of cigarettes and has scratch damage from being a footrest for a DVD player and being moved several times during cleaning.

The fact that Foxtel is still in business no matter how many times they breach the ACMA and dozens of other laws. Unrelated to the above, but lately Foxtel has been spam-calling me to send back an old IQ3 box, which is not mine since the account was with someone who died last year and I have never b...

Re: Victorian Bus Observations 2023

A lot of ex-Transdev buses are on rail duties these days, although I haven't seen many high floor buses, mostly first-gen low floors. Also a lot of ex-Ventura group CR221Ls. When the Lilydale/Mooroolbark works were on there was a Custom 550 Merc running rail replacement, I had a photo of it but my m...

Re: Tram stop changes

Give it time, we still need to do something about accessible stops, and of course tram priority and lack thereof. Sitting at a red light for upwards of 60 seconds after already waiting another 30-60 seconds for a right-turning car or five to get off the tracks (because something as simple as a hook ...

I saw Stephen Jones on TV say compulsory super is not working as intended as it saves the wealthy billions while the most of the rest end up on the pension Italicised for emphasis. Sounds like it's working exactly as intended, in line with a certain federal political party which has been in power f...

Don't know if it was a recent episode or not, but an old Bedford(?) motorhome (rego EFI290) just featured on Aussie Salvage Squad on 7mate. Unfortunately it was dragged straight to the scrapyard as the owner had no intention on doing anything with it after it sat unused for nearly twenty years. Whil...

Melbourne sucking as always. Cup eve at Crown Melbourne, where the only TAB in the entire complex closes at 9PM on the dot so you can't collect winning tickets or vouchers until the next day. Crown doesn't control the TAB located inside its own casino, VCGLR doesn't give two schitts about the inabil...

More Crown Melbourne s&#ttiniess, as the 20th century rears its ugly head once again. Apparently the Teak room now has a dress code rule, which is not shown on the Crown website or anywhere else online, as Crown's website insists that only their nightclubs require such an anachronistic thing. Gu...

Re: What gives you the S&#T's!?

Aldi Blackstone chips are now $2.99 each. Were $2.29 at the start of the year, then $2.49 after Vladolph Putler attacked Ukraine, then $2.69, then a new recipe swapped sunflower oil for canola and slightly lowered the added flavour (still 200g though, no shrinkflation at least). Still beats the joke...

Costco, early 2022: Let's jack up our everyday Coke 36 pack price to nearly $26, remove any and all membership discounts which took all of $2 off anyway (10%), and blame it on COVID, truck driver shortages, floods in Queensland, Russia invading Ukraine etc... Re: Kinetic Melbourne Discussion Thread 2022

Figures I'd get it wrong. Saw a square-looking silver bus with a green desto on the news and instantly thought of an Evo 2, especially being on a DART route. Instead it's one of just eight(?) silver Scania/CR228Ls with a green desto (ex Invicta); the much more common Volvo B7RLEs having orange destos.

Did anyone see the SmartBus which was in a crash on the news a few days ago? It was an older silver bus on the 908 (possibly an Evo 2).

Heads up to anyone still running Windows XP (be it on a vintage PC or in a virtual machine), the ABC News site no longer works properly in Firefox 52 ESR due to some newly-added JavaScript that breaks the page, blanking the entire screen at the last second after the page has otherwise-successfully l...
