Re: Light rail gets the green light: stage 1 UNSW to CBD

You don't seem to understand that a road can carry more cars per hour at 40km/h than at any higher speed. And it's much safer for everyone. You surely jest. Why not bring out someone waving a red flag to slow down traffic? That's the most ridiculous thing I've ever heard. Increasing a road's speed ...

Re: NSW Future Rail Plan - NWRL/Metro/Harbour Crossing

Caught the 2nd train out of Tallawong today. It looks like everything is running smoothly, but the trains are having issues with stop announcements and the PIDs. Both trains I've caught - from Tallawong and the one I'm on at the moment from Chatswood, have had their systems totally nonfunctional exc...

Re: Found Vintage KFC Plastic Bag.

Before the building on the left hand side of the first photo collapsed (no XXX, it really did collapse), you could actually see a very old silhouette of a Kentucky Fried Chicken (pre-abbreviation era) sign. Over at Southpoint Shopping Centre down the road, you could also see a ghost old Woolworths S...

Re: Share bikes are back.

I've actually seen Lime staff members coming around and repositioning the bikes (actually inconvenienced me because I actually wanted to ride the bike they picked up!). I never saw that with the previous operators. I've also noticed previous riders - at least most of the time - locking the helmets t...

Re: Share bikes are back.

That's about right. Long trips are expensive, but shorter ones (the last mile between a bus stop and your work, for example) are quite cheap.

Re: Timetable Changes (2 Dec 2018)

Geez, that's even worse than I expected! I thought the 309X would basically be the same as the 309 service now, but skipping stops between Green Square and Railway Square...but now I find that it's totally skipping the urban area of Hillsdale and Matraville? What a bloody joke. It'll be the car for ...

Re: Timetable Changes (2 Dec 2018)

I live on Beauchamp Road and my normal bus is the 309 from my home to ATP in Redfern. These changes STINK! I don't understand why they couldn't continue to run the 309? I don't see what benefit truncating it at Banksmeadow achieves - maybe a 5 minute time saving on the trip? I don't mind the 309X se...

Re: 'The Hop' Branding Rollout

I do laugh at the sheeting of all these changes to political parties or individuals. I suspect there are instead plenty of faceless beaurecrats who made the decision. At best it would have been a simple sign-off on a forgone conclusion. A good example of this is the standardised blue and white TfNS...

I've been riding these regularly between my on-street parking street and my workplace. Trip works out to cost about $2 to $3 each way, but saves me 10 minutes walking.

Re: NSW On Demand Buses

The UberPool service is excellent, though I suspect that it's losing money hand over fist. It cost me about $7 to get a lift to Eveleigh from Matraville in half the time of the bus trip. If I wanted to get one to Kingsford it'd only be $3.50 or something. In the 6 or 7 trips I've taken with UberPool...

Re: Can a bus driver disable a "BUS STOPPING" bell?

Yeah, I can remember being on a school field trip to the local bus depot (ah, the joys of Year 1) and the bus drivers always switching the bus stopping bell off. That trip was bloody fun - we got to go through the bus wash. A few of the little shits up the back opened the windows (of course, there b...

Re: B2 coming? Homebush to Central.

"Rapid" and "double decker" are two incompatible concepts considering that the latter run slower and spend longer at stops. If it were an all stops service like Metrobus I'd agree with you, but 'Rapid' routes are generally planned to have stops spaced out at much further distances than normal all-s...

Re: Private Observations - July to December 2018

I had a shocking experience on a Transit Systems operated 439 service on Monday afternoon. Everything goes smoothly from Mortlake to Five Dock, but then the driver changeover occurs. This new driver gets on the bus and takes about 10 minutes to get the bus up and running. He banged on the fare termi...

I remember when I was in high school about 7 or 8 years ago, the 693 from Matraville to Railway Square always had regular passengers boarding the bus from around Maroubra Junction onwards.

Re: NSW On Demand Buses

The biggest problem I have with these on-demand buses is the 100 different systems they are using which vary from region to region. Some don't allow payment by anything other than credit card, some do (by cash or Opal Pay). Some allow bookings to be made by calling on the phone (perfect for the elde...

The breakdown shoulder was very obviously inadequate from the photos I've seen. Plus it was in broad daylight - how could you miss it? Rolling a broken down car down a hill with no brakes seems like a recipe for disaster. You might as well huddle behind the breakdown bay. http://www.abc.net.au/news/...

Re: Western Sydney University at Rydalmere

I've been going to WSU for the past five years. Rydalmere station sucks hard and it's no wonder that no one uses it. An hourly, non air conditioned train service that drops you off at a station which receives infrequent services is not very attractive. The first time I tried to use the train, I wait...
