Re: STA Observations 2021
STA will remain as an operating entity until at least March 2022, and if history is anything to go by, that will slip. So will still be appropriate to have an STA 2022 thread until the last region is transferred.

Re: What happens when the mo plates run out
Not quite, only those where the plates were handed back to the RMS can be reused, but yes there is still plenty of room within the current series.matthewg wrote: ↑Since reusing numbers happens, it's only a problem if we get more than 9999 buses with MO registration.

Re: New bus contracts to drive improved services (as from 2020)
Would Busabout be able to use their Nevilles Bus Service accreditation in more multiple regions if they win bidding for one of the current STA contracts then wins bidding to retain the region 15 contract. Transdev operate their region 10 and 13 on one accreditation and region 12 on another, while T...

Re: CBD & South East Light Rail
Capacity on the 333 only becomes a problem when the beach population decides to decamp en masse at on a Sunday afternoon, same thing happens at other beaches and at Manly with the ferry. State Transit operate (or at least have in previous summers) additional Bondi Junction 333 short workings and X81...

Re: CBD & South East Light Rail
The overall demand along that corridor is greater than buses can provide for, but not great enough to justify a train line. What other mode do you suggest that has an intermediate capacity between these two modes? If there is a capacity problem, more buses with a bus lane on Bondi Road will be a fa...

Re: CBD & South East Light Rail
Shock horror, a big crowd wanting to leave Bondi Beach on a summer afternoon.
What should we do, waste a couple of billion on a tramline? Not going to happen.

Re: NSW Railway Observations 2020
Having been replaced by road coaches since the Wallan derailment in February, the down Sydney - Grafton and up Brisbane - Sydney XPT services have been restored, albeit with the latter starting at Casino due to the border closure. XP2000, the trailing power car that remained upright, has been return...

T38 i think? was seen running on the T4 on its own on Monday For the last couple of weeks, 4-car Tangaras have been operating what appear to be training runs between the country platforms at Central and Eveleigh via the engine dive during the off-peak, possibly was one of these shuttling to/from Mo...

Re: Private Bus Observations 2020
Gemilang International held a 50% shareholding in Gemilang Australia that was sold in June 2019. As a result, GI began selling whole buses to GA, where previously it had sold buses directly to end customers in Australia and New Zealand. So GA is now the distributor, where previously it was a broker ...

Re: Private Bus Observations 2020
Yet another example of the NSW Government's buses-manufactured-anyway-except-NSW policy. Appears State Transit has gone against the ' buses-manufactured-anyway-except-NSW policy', having received 53 Scania K310UBs and 58 Volvo B8RLEs in the last three years, all bodied by Custom Bus in Sydney. Plen...

Simple answer is to make the bridge wide enough to allow for a separate passageway for non rail passengers to be built on the southern side.

Re: CBD & South East Light Rail
It might be possible to convert from an A-B-C-B-A + A-B-C-B-A configuration to a single A-B-C-B-C-B-C-B-A set by constructing 3 new modules to replace two driving (A) ends, but I don't know how practical that would be. Would be an expensive process for relatively little gain. There is capacity for ...

Re: CBD & South East Light Rail
The Trailerbus has equal capacity to any tram but can provide a one seat ride because of the far greater route. The only trouble is every time I ask the transport minister for an exemption due to ABS, speed limiter and stability control I only get fobbed off from TfNSW TfNSW won't consider bending ...

Re: CBD & South East Light Rail
Why should the network not be extended to its old stomping grounds even though they would provide a medium capacity transit option for passengers that can cover a wider catchment without resorting to buses. Reinstating a piece of infrastructure just because it existed before, is not how infrastruct...

Re: Ferry Observations 2020
It may not last. A commercial entity won't keep running an unprofitable service forever. Obviously saved by TfNSW agreeing to pick up the shortfall, unlikely it has stepped in to save it only to cut the flack again if it were cut loose down the track. I think, to the contrary, Constance is being ve...

Re: CBD & South East Light Rail
Are there still lights to control vehicles/pedestrians at the left turn? Just a zebra crossing IIRC, very little road traffic now. Nonetheless, it would be worth extending the light rail from Kingsford along the former tramway reservation to Maroubra Junction, which could be done at minimal cost wi...

Premier Illawarra inherited 11 Mercedes-Benz LO812s from John J Hill and Ruttys, so it would have been in a good position to asses their suitability. For whatever reason when their time came, Premier Illawarra did not replace them with similar sized vehicles, as to why we don't know definitively. Bu...

And how many Coaster or Mercedes Vario size buses do they operate? Plenty of Busteck MDis but cost savings would be negligible when compared to the XDi full size equivalent.385BUZ wrote: ↑But what about Cairns, Townsville and Rockhampton??

Re: Private Bus Observations 2020
It seems that it's no longer the operators who have the choice to be more flexible, TfNSW is requiring them to use oversize buses and fostering poor service provision. Doesn't appear that TfNSW prohibits the use of shorter buses, Forest have a 2008 Bustech MDi. While the simplistic answer may be to...

Hornsby Bus Group and Lane Cove Bus Service dabbled with Nambucca bodied midibuses in the 80s. Westbus and its National Bus Company subsidiaries in Brisbane and Melbourne, and the various Sunbus operations in Queensland introduced extensive midibus operations in the 90s. Yet within a few years all h...

Re: Private Bus Observations 2020
It seems a nonsense to run full-size 12 metre buses around like this. Low floor midibuses would be more appropriate. The cost difference in a midi vs full size bus, both capital and operational, isn't that large. Any savings are offset by less flexibility. While they may run near empty during the d...
