Notice that 3195 has this week moved, don't think it had moved since these pics were taken.

Re: Coachtrans

Noticed in the Surfside disposals list they had about 20 ex Coachtrans coaches (mainly MCAs), so perhaps perhaps part of the business was sold to them. Maybe the Gold Coast Tourist Shuttle business or the theme park express services?

Had a fair bit of new stuff too, plenty of Landseers and Tourmasters. Thought the spider wheels were on the Internationals run by Skennars.

Re: NSW Rail Observations - February 2017

Was a film shoot, saw 2813/2863 heading out of the platform about 10:00, were a couple of cars in the station forecourt with English numberplates, so presumably trying to pass Mortuary station off as some where in the Old Dart.

Re: STA Observations - February 2017

The trams and metro trains will of course be able to take at least 4 ppsm because they're stepless, have plenty of doors and thus can exchange and distribute passengers much more evenly and quickly. I don't know how long it will take the penny to drop in the bus industry. I'm sure the good folk of ...

Re: STA Observations - February 2017

Get your terminology right - they're low-entry buses, not low floor! Appears most people on this board are of the opinion that if a bus has both step-free front and rear doors, then it is a low-floor, and only one contributor that has an obsession with stairs beyond the rear door, that thinks diffe...

Coachtrans

Back in the early 90s, Coachtrans was the dominant coach operator on the Gold Coast with a large fleet of Austral, Denning and MCA coaches as well as Toyota Coaster midis all registered on xxxCTA plates. I presume the opening of the Gold Coast and Brisbane Airport lines knocked them around, but they...

Re: SC Tours Aleanadra

As well as Toyotas, SC Tours operated Austral Tourmasters and MANs with Nambucca and Coach Design bodyeork, some of which IIRC correctly were transferred from Sampson's Kiama operation. Fleet livery was white with light and dark blue stripes. Recall there was a tie up with Clipper Tours, one buying ...

The O405 gassies started at 1101 in spite of some 39xx numbers (3983-3999?) being unused.

Re: STA Observations - February 2017

Presumably a competitive tender process is run, and whilst lowest cost isn't the only criteria for selection, is given fairly heavy weighting in the evaluation process.

Re: [Media Release] Statement Re: State Transit Chief Execut

If that's the case then there is a severe lack of seats, even assuming the extra doors were not included. Seems to only have minimal single and perimeter seats. While less mobile passengers should always be catered for, it needs to be a balance. The majority of passengers are able bodied and thus ha...

Presumably there is an elevated section beyond to accommodate the fuel tanks, or if it is in the section below the rear passenger, then it must be fairly small. I am guessing this is an artic?

Re: [Media Release] Statement Re: State Transit Chief Execut

Given that the floor at the rear needs to be at the same height as the top of the wheel archs to accommodate the fuel tanks, you either have 2 or 3 steps leading to a flat floor at the same level or a ramped floor necessitating a bigger step up to the seat level. Can't really see how one would be mu...

And how long is the job going to last? Sure there will be a nice golden parachute should things come to an early end. :D While State Transit's demise has been a moot point for a number of years, new 5 year contracts suggest it may be around for a while yet. https://www.busnews.com.au/industry-news/...

As always statistics only tell part of the story, but between 1970 and 2015 Sydney's population grew by 50%, Perth's by 150%. http://books.mongabay.com/population_estimates/full/Perth-Australia.html And as stated previously, Perth does have the advantage of being more of a planned city which has all...

Re: [Media Release] Statement Re: State Transit Chief Execut

Maybe it costs more to do, I don't know the story there, but the benefit has been a huge rise in patronage, compared to stagnation in Sydney. According to their respective annual reports, State Transit's patronage rose only slightly in the last financial year (203 to 204m), while Sydney Trains incr...

There have only ever been four Freshwater class ferries. The jetcats were purchased to replace the hydrofoils and after being withdrawn, sold to a dealer who reportedly offloaded them for triple the price. http://www.abc.net.au/worldtoday/content/2009/s2767505.htm The refurbished Manly ferry was the...

Deluxe went belly up in 1990, 25th September was a Tuesday that year. 115 coaches must have pretty much been the entire fleet.

Re: Deanes snow services

IIRC, Ron Snr operated services out of Lane Cove and Turramurra until the mid 70s, when the former was sold and the latter moved to a new depot at Macquarie Park. The Clipper Tours operation was sold in the mid 80s to Melbourne interests who introduced their white and maroon livery. In the late 80s ...
