Re: Bus Routes - What would you do if you were in charge?

With the project nearing completion in the second half of next year, I'd expect community consultation to begin on the proposed network very soon. There are already some elements of the network that are almost a given and have been published in small snippets across a range of planning documents (na...

Re: Full Low Floor vs. Low entrance buses

Full low floor buses are mechanically more complicated then the commonly used (in Australia, at least) low entrance buses - they are also more expensive to purchase and maintain, with some of their expensive parts quite close to the ground. Full low floor buses would not be able to operate in some ...

Re: PTA / Transperth & Private Observations - 2020

The B8RLEA is legally licensed, as per most other artics like the B12BLEA, to hold max 110 pax. Of course physically, they can hold more, but in terms of safe operation, that's the cap. And that 'safe' limit of 110 pax is determined not just by physical space itself but also by how it is calculated...

Re: PTA / Transperth Service Changes - 2020

The Red CAT hasn't been permanently axed, only temporarily suspended due to the COVID-19 situation, so it wouldn't make a lot of sense to spend money on re-branding if the service was to be reinstated in the near future. It could well come back depending on whether the factors that have justified it...

Re: Route 194/194X: Service frequency increased to 30 mins during off peak, evenings and weekends Currently the 194 seems to operate every 15 min during the weekday off peak, and the new TT has a 30 min off peak frequency. That's NOT a service frequency increase for weekday off peak.[/img] The curr...

Re: VOLVO’S FIRST ELECTRIC BUSES IN AUSTRALIA DUE MID-2021

There's very limited turnaround time on the Joondalup CAT. In fact looking at the latest timetable, looks like they've increased the run time, so now there is basically only one minute between trips. No time for opportunity charging! Drivers/buses change over during the day even with diesel buses as...

The patronage claims for Region 6 has since been corrected. It was actually a 9.5 per cent increase... Correction: An earlier version of this story said that trips on inner west bus routes more than doubled last year. Those figures were only for trips taken after the privatisation of Bus Contract 6 ...

Yes just to clarify with 1440, it was originally delivered with the half-Perspex screen (back when the cages were not quite mandatory on everything yet). It then trialled a full Perspex screen which I might have photos of... Following the trial it was removed and I can’t remember whether it ended up...

There will definitely be two platform faces from day 1 but whether the third is also built at the same time remains to be seen...

Re: Wollongong Rt. 55 Commenced Service & Split into 55A/C

The rules can change, they change all the time. By comparison, the double artics proposed for Brisbane are specified at only 150 pax. I believe Council are proposing a 150 pax capacity for regular services with the ability to carry 180 pax during event mode operations, so it will be very similar to...

The standard E12 is fully low floor, as seen in this video. For some reason the Australian demonstrators have a high floor at the back. The Australian ones also have a valence around the roof to hide from view the batteries and aircon and the rear window is covered by an opaque film. These are the ...

Better still, unlike previous changes, it's not so much a case of robbing Peter to pay Paul like it often is but reinvesting within the same route or corridor itself on different days/times to better meet demand on particular routes/corridors. E.g. Removing 930 short workings and using that to provi...

Would have been an interesting trip. I mentioned Helsinki before and Tonyp mentioned that he doubted their buses are full low floor and he was correct. Even the 3 door buses are only low entrance and there are naturally quite a number of steps to negotiate at the rear door - I will try and dig up a...

In the image of the C series train above, it appears to have lateral seating rather than the longitudinal now pretty standard in Perth. Is this just artistic licence or a reversal of the previous trend? A lot of people don't like riding backwards so that would be a retrograde step. Longitudinal is ...

The question in my mind is that typically a tram line will be built where the demand is too great for an existing bus link (but not enough to justify a train line), yet there is no direct bus link connecting Curtin-CBD-QE2-UWA, so how do they figure that demand is great enough along this corridor t...

I personally disagree that boarding via the centre door was "sensible" (let it be said I have nothing against the concept, though!), and it relates to passengers tagging on and off. I believe that attempting to tag on at the centre or rear door(s) can result in passengers being charged a default fa...

i want to ask you. Why does on 2016, transperth decided to change the timetable color of the bus based on the train line to make all uniformly color use grey color At the time, significant budgetary constraints were imposed and cost-cutting targets were set for most/all government agencies. This wa...
