Re: MTT BUT Trolleybus No.240 [ex Launceston 329]
No. 240 [ex 329] was one of 5 surplus Launceston J.A. Lawton of Adelaide built trolleybuses transferred to Hobart to replace ageing Canton Leyland trolleys in 1963-4. No. 240 is photographed in Macquarie Street Hobart c.1964. My apologies for resurrecting an old thread. Just curious if you can tell...

Re: Merseylink Coaches NEWEST addition
Always pleased to see vintage buses enter preservation. A good antidote to the mind numbing tedium of modern yawn inducing vehicles - particularly private operators Chinese disposables! (with apologies to drivers who appreciate the comfort of new vehicles). Of course, when these vintage vehicles wer...

Re: Look what is sitting at Mittagong
Been a while since I've been on here. Amazed to see one of the ex Tas AEC Regal IV's is still in existence, albeit rather battered. Was starting to anticipate a movement to buy and repatriate it home (which I would have happily contributed to), but then noted it had just been sold! Any further news ...

Re: Z1 English Electric Co-Co
Thanks LocoLes. My current notes suggest all 4 'Z's arrived on 4/12/72. Sounds like that can't be the case and Z1 & Z1 may have arrived then, but Z3 & Z4 must have arrived later in early January 73? That last photo you posted - do you have an exact date in Jan. 73 or is that as much as you h...

I'm pretty sure trolley bus No. 90 was one of the ones that were at Interlaken. Not sure about Nos. 87 & 89 - one of them (or both?) may have been there as well. I remember going up to Interlaken years ago with the TTMS to raid them for parts for No. 74. Shame their all gone now. Would have been...

Any idea what the celebration was for, to warrant #74's decoration. Thinking Royal Visit, however which year ? Trolleybuses finished in 1968 and artics were not introduced until 1979 (although the one pictured is 1980 vintage) AND they're going the wrong way down Davey St  Pretty sure it was...

Too busy funding bids to buy redundant Tasrail EE locos!! Anyway, the Mercs are too modern for my taste. Ansair Bedfords (like you) and AEC Regals & Reliances are more my cup of tea!! (hence the handle...)Tas Bus Nut wrote:Definately One for YOU AEC RegalAEC Regal wrote:Preservation candidate?

Yes, its a shame TBCS wasn't well and truly established in the 1980's. There were same great Ansairs still around at the time. I particularly remember H.C.C.'s no. 812 in brown livery. I think it must have been their major projects crib bus.

Shame one of these hasn't been preserved, considering how historically significant they were as the main trolley bus replacements. Same with their predecessors, the tram replacement Ansairs. Maybe a half decent one in private ownership may become available one day?

Thanks for clearing that up Phil.
Actually they are not exactly next door to each other as the Masonic Temple is between them.
Bus, wise, they would have seen an interesting parade of vehicles outside their front doors, from trams to trolley buses and onwards.....

Must be a mistype and meant to be 1990 rather than 1970? The ABC, pre 83/84 were in a building in Sandy Bay Rd, opposite St. Davids Park, weren't they? I cant recall exactly, whether it was the one that is now Mantra One on the corner or the one further down that is now the Conservatorium of Music (...

Congratulations on the donation of 706! That will be two artics (one private) under the TBCS banner now, is that correct?
I sympathise with your struggle to establish a permanent home. At least you are not restricted to rail served sites like one of my groups!

Always liked the style of Ansair bodied vehicles. Very distinctive with their rounded shape - like bullets (or capsules!) on wheels!

Re: 1942 Leyland "Canton" trolleybus
I have fond memories of riding in No. 74, back in the 1980's on a couple occasions, when the TTMS was permitted to tow # 74 (straining to remember whether # 235 had a go as well?) into Hobart and then have it propelled around the CBD as a "float" participating in the Annual Hobart Christma...

Re: Tasmanian Steam
I was referring to when the TGR/AN Tasrail stopped running normal passenger services on the main network. I still don't understand why they couldn't have kept most of the ex-TGR Hobart suburban passenger network-could have come in handy with any future urban sprawls across the island state. That an...
