Re: Extra Covid 19 services

In my neck of the woods, the 550 is operating on a roughly every 7 min frequency in both directions from just before midday to 3pm-ish which was somewhat unexpected as the offpeak services never really got full except if the one before or after was late (they normally go to 15min freqs in offpeak on...

Re: Eastern Suburbs changes from 23 and 30 September 2018

I don't see the point in the 400 continuing to Rockdale if the 420 already follows it's route to Eastgardens. It's probably a lack of layover space at Eastgardens so Rockdale was the next nearest area with ample room since the 400 will be ending and commencing on the northern side away from the Bri...

Re: STA Observations - January to June 2018

Something I didnt expect to happen on this timetable change for the North-West: m54 becomes a 24 hr service with the 546 and 549 getting increases in frequency on Sunday/PH plus later finishing times, presumably to connect to and from the m54 at Epping and Parramatta. The 545 change I cant work out ...

Re: Sydney commuters get chance to trial on-demand buses

Absolutely will not ever work. It's tedious enough when a bus service has to take a diversion to service a loop. How are people going to plan their journey of they don't know where the bus will travel day to day, on their way to the destination. It has failed overseas, what do they think this stunt...

Re: 2017-8 NSW State Budget - Buses

Kinda surprised they're 'enhancing' the m52 since its patronage in shoulder periods and weekends isnt too bad (its not like buses are departing the city or Parra bursting at the seams at midday on a Wednesday or Saturday for example). My suspicion is that they're probably going to put it on a timeta...

So a few observations: >252 is full time from CBD to Gladesville when I expected it to be only either at peak hours or off peak. >518 gets bumped to 30mins on Sundays/holidays but the last few trips all terminate at Gladesville Shops which is new as they usually terminate the shortworkings of the 51...

Replacement buses were supplied by Transdev, STA (Willoughby, North Sydney, Ryde & Brookvale) and Busways, with services between Berowra & Hornsby, Gosford & Hornsby and Woy Woy & Hornsby. I got as far as Woy Woy, I believe there are photos elsewhere from Gosford Stn. The XPT eventually passed thru...

Out of the weather chaos today, it appears they are running 30 min headways on trains to Gosford (all trains at 29 and 59 past were cancelled). Also, because of presumably rollingstock stuck in Hamilton, they were getting creative in what set to use or how to move them. For example, the 1715 to Hami...

Re: Introducing OPAL Card

What you are talking about is called a pre-auth or funds hold. I'm aware of that for card schemes but I've never heard of that being used with EFTPOS. if the payment card is returned before the Opal top up than any authorisation or settlement would need to be a card not present transaction. Again, ...

Re: Tackling crime and fare evasion on public transport [TfN

West Ryde and Eastwood might be problematic as they are also used as a 'pedestrian bridge' to get to the other side of the rail line (there are other paths that do the same thing at each station but they tend to be lightly used as they are further away to the centre of everything than the rail acces...

I think they changed the rules. During the CityRail era, one could get OP fares for the last service before the clock struck 9:00am. Anyone else recall this practice? I believe so. Besides the interurbans, some of the outer metro stations started allowing off peak fares before 9am IIRC, although I ...

Re: My long proposal change list for Sydney bus routes.

I will ask one question: where are you going to get the buses and depot space to run all of these? Also, your plan to extend the m54 to the CBD is, frankly, a waste of money. Epping is already served by 12 trains per hour on the peaks, Macquarie Park has two stations plus other buses that go to the ...

What do you mean by that. Currently Opal is available on Route 333 only. Therefore any other routes than 333 to have Opal active would mean some futher roll out of the Opal Card. With more buses have readers fitted, can't they simply switch them on and run more 333 so to reduce overcrowding on the ...

Apparently the head of State Transit recently told staff in a newsletter that one of STA's upcoming goals is to reduce fuel costs, and to that end, will be putting the most fuel efficient (read most gutless!) buses on the road outside of the peaks and presumably all weekends. If that's the case, lo...
