Re: CBD & South East Light Rail

When your system has been operating for six months but the overhead wiring is eating pantographs for breakfast (Anzac Pde nr Alison Rd) then I guess you do need to spend all day working our why and not actually fixing the problem and getting the line back in service. https://i.imgur.com/Jzbf4uB.png...

Re: CBD & South East Light Rail

Sinking already? I think so. There is a "hole" on the inbound side opposite Ascot St, starting to appear again. The only section of road which was excavated, new road base compacted and new road constructed was the eastern half of the Todman Ave intersection, so while the utility renewal hopefully ...

Why would you put the depot waaay up at Dangar St? It's hundreds of metres from anything and now a wholly residential area.

I saw an image of D4 at central on Facebook either in the SETS group or the NIF appreciation group, so something tells me 10 more cars have arrived if D104 came with them, (All i know is that there are least 4 new cars) D4 was hanging around Central in the afternoon on Friday. https://i.imgur.com/f...

So to where do Clovelly Rd services, or North Randwick services, or Anzac Pde infill services feed? There's no bus-tram interchange facilities outside the termini (and, less smoothly, UNSW Anzac Pde and Kensington Todman Ave)

Re: CBD & South East Light Rail

And it will make the express buses faster when I take them, by getting rid of the all-stops buses along Moore Park Bwy. Where do you get this impression that all stops buses are being removed entirely? There's huge gaps between tram stops, and huge areas of the Randwick branch that were within 400m...

Re: STA Observations 2020

I'm sorry, but where are you pulling that 35 min figure from? It's 20-25 mins at most from Bondi Beach to BJI. I did the North Bondi-Bondi Junction-city commute for years on the 389. c.2010 I could generally rely on, if I got an X89 by 7:57 of making the 8:28 train. At Seven Ways maybe as late at 8...

Re: STA Observations 2020

An interesting petition I came across from a couple of years back with some insight into services to Bondi Beach and an outside-the-square alternative: Apparently an on-demand service has been introduced but, in the experience of anybody using the corridor, would a proper bus route be a viable alte...

Re: Light rail gets the green light: stage 1 UNSW to CBD

But pm headways are not closer than 5 min - that must be enough to make a difference. A couple of extra trips inserted should be no sweat - different from keeping it up for about 3 hours. Do you know when those school trips (presumably for Sydney Boys and Girls Highs?) occur? hmm maybe. The "school...

They'll run 10am - 7pm, for some reason. What is your source for the timing as I cant find any - the trip finder does not appear to be using them as yet. A relevant party at Transdev. Currently intended to run 25/5 through 5/6. Prior to 1000 the headways on this section are 4 minutes, their closest...

Re: Light rail gets the green light: stage 1 UNSW to CBD

It doesn't skip - after the tram leaves, the next phase is Cleveland right into Anzac. But it's shortened to maintain synchronisation. So it lets about 3 cars through per lane. Before COVID-19, this causes Cleveland St to queue back past South Dowling St down into Surry Hills. You don't want to be o...

Re: Light rail gets the green light: stage 1 UNSW to CBD

Yes, OK for trams to be stuffed up by lights but not OK for buses apparently. It will be too bad if an express bus gets stuck behind an all stops and traffic light restricted tram. This is what I mean. Any bus on the tramway will eventually catch up to a tram and then it's stuck on the slow boat to...

Re: Light rail gets the green light: stage 1 UNSW to CBD

Let me get this straight, are they proposing to let some buses drive along the tracks between Kingsford and Kensington? If so, will they drive off and on them at intersections or specific gaps in the cement borders? There are specific gaps. I can't see it ever being used because of how much of a me...

Re: Light rail gets the green light: stage 1 UNSW to CBD

As I've said before, provided services are running normally (big if), a 5 minute deficiency in journey time is not too likely to trouble the bulk of present customers using it only between CQ and Central and between Central and UNSW. The people being most affected by this problem are those riding b...

Re: Light rail gets the green light: stage 1 UNSW to CBD

There are currently 18 610e services of a morning. Wasn't it planned to run a couple of extra L2 to Moore Park for the school loading? One tram could operate 2 or 3 shuttles over the same time frame. Currently it's one tram doing two shuttles in the AM and PM for the schools. Whether that persists ...

Re: Light rail gets the green light: stage 1 UNSW to CBD

The tram got 'zero' traffic light priority. It waited at Lang Rd. It waited when crossing Alison Rd. Lang Rd has zero pre-emption because it would cause gridlock. Originally there was a fixed phase in the whole cycle where the tram lights could go green. They've tinkered with it and now it looks li...

I'm not sure how far they are going inbound. I did see one reversing on the Lang Rd XO at about 0650 on Tuesday morning (may have been just starting the shift?) Although it's possible to turn around there or at Moore Park, after 7am when the daytime frequency starts I'm not sure it's feasible to. T...

A good 30-40mm of water over the tracks at Lang Rd this morning. Normal service through it though, so that's good.
