Re: Rail Observations 2023
Looking closer, you are right. If you look at a wider view, there are 3 carriages visible at the western end of the platform. I think it might be an 8 car set, but the area in-between was taken at a different time. These views are often multiple small photos stitched together. Look closely at the up...

Re: Ferry Observations 2023
It appears to be the same as the pre-holiday schedule, with a Freshwater every two hours laid over the 20 minute Emerald service, rather than being integrated into it.
On a separate note, MFF was recently advertising for more staff, from GPHs to ferry masters, and some operations/admin staff.

Re: Sydney Metro - Tallawong to Bankstown
One problem of this will be that there are now no dedicated platforms where T3 trains from Bankstown can terminate. What is the usage of the local lines, esp the up line, during busier periods?

Re: WS Airport Metro
From SMH: A raft of internal documents released under freedom-of-information laws show Fire and Rescue NSW (FRNSW) had raised serious concerns about the safety implications for firefighters and the public about greater distances between cross-passages on multiple occasions over the last two years. A lot of people don't use PT, because it is not convenient to their travel requirements.
Making it free does not remove that inconvenience.

Re: CBD & South East Light Rail
As for the rain - after three years of complaints, and rectification promises from the same (above) PR people, the lifts still fail and ponding still occurs on all the stairs at Moore Park light rail station. 1059444 I would suspect the problems with the lifts here are the result of vandalism. Bein...

Re: NSW Electric Bus Plan
Back in the 1990s I had a radio scanner to eavesdrop on the RR and other services. I'd often hear the controller tell drivers to put up SET DOWN ONLY and turn around (or finish the shift) when the last passenger got off. That was in the days when STA was more in control of its own destiny, and not b...

Re: Bus Observations 2023
Thanks. That makes sense of course with the name "Willoughby" having several Ms in it! Willumby? Dates from DGT days. They already had a "W" in Waverley, so for Willoughby they turned W upside down, which is an M. Or as I usually refer to it, Milloughby. Actually, the M original...

Re: NSW Electric Bus Plan
I recall reading an article many years ago about BESI in London. If a service was running late and the next one was close behind, they cut the service short, move the passengers back, and it took up its running in the opposite direction. In Sydney a few years ago I’d often see three m10s chasing eac...

They had some very smart people in LT in those days. Then the bean counters took over and they wanted everything off the shelf. It went downhill after that with a succession of failures.

Re: CBD & South East Light Rail
Since at least early last week there have been "blink and you'll miss them" notifications on the platform PIDS about service alterations on Australia Day. They state L2/L3 services will not run 9pm - 10 pm between Town Hall and Circular Quay. I'm sure this should read 9 am - 10 pm in line ...

Re: CBD & South East Light Rail
Unlike the old system there seems to be little or no scope to put the extra LRVs required to move the overwhelming influx for events. Bl##### hopeless! 6 artics is pathetic and weak. That's probably all that mob have available after offloading so many before with their penchant for one size fits al...

R6 was providing supplementary buses to Moore Park as route 1.
Photos on FB suggest at least 6 artics in use. These would have been provided long before the LR failure.

Re: Possible future light rail routes
So where there isn't a major development agenda and thus justification for a railed mode, I guess the alternative of fighting the heavy vehicle regs to allow double artics on the route is a difficult one, despite Brisbane City Council lairing its double artic around the streets with some sort of a ...

I doubt an extension would make economic sense unless that section was opened up to higher density occupation. The Kensington area is currently the focus for new medium/high rise.

The windscreens appear to be flat glass, so any auto glass supplier should be able to cut new pieces to match. Same place should be able to supply new rubbers.

Re: Sydney Metro - Tallawong to Bankstown
I gather the "gap fillers" at CQ are fixed rubber blocks attached to the platforms; fairly simple solution with a straight platform, and mismatched levels. The devices proposed for the metro appear to be a mechanical plate which extends when the gates are opened and retracts when the gates...
