Re: Bus Observations 2024.

Bus Biz fleet 207 Mercedes 0500 BCI came to grief just south of Dubbo this morning. Police were apparently chasing a bloke out of Dubbo in his car when it collided with the coach in Trainlink colours. The bloke finished up ‘brown bread’. The police as usual have denied any responsibility claiming it...

Re: Royle Bros. Austerity's.

I’ve never really got the whole austerity body thing. I know they were built during the Second World War and all looked as attractive as a shot bush pig. Were they all built by the same bodybuilder, or did bus companies simply build the bodies themselves, borrowing the ‘styling’ from existing ones. ...

Re: ex-State Transit Vehicle Transmissions

It seems strange that at the end of a large order of B8 ZFs, they go and throw a few random Voith ones in there, and not even in consecutive order. Given that was the end of diesel purchases for STA, there was probably nothing to be gained by throwing random odd-bods in there. How good is your infor...

Re: Bus Observations 2024.

I imagine between the 1000+ CB60 bodies out there in service, that barely a month goes by without a new front end going on one somewhere. Not every accident warrants a news story, and there are numerous minor bungles happening regularly. I dare say Customs make a fortune out of selling replacement p...

Re: Bus Observations 2023

So a visitor to an unfamiliar area arrives at the bus stop waiting for the bus. If that bus route is a loop service, and shows both destinations, how is the passenger expected to know which way it is going? Chances are if the passenger is a youth, elderly, or has an intellectual disability, they are...

Re: West Connex Interchange Abject Failure.

Despite searching the www, I can’t find any clear information on the merging of lanes between Viccy Rd and the new tunnel on the outbound. Prior to the opening, I’m pretty sure that Victoria Rd outbound comprised a bus lane and two general traffic lanes, with two outbound lanes from the tunnel exiti...

Re: Bus Model numbers

Perusing the fleet list for Clarke Coaches of Hornsby, I notice that with their now withdrawn Motorcoaches, and their currently operational Denning Gold Phoenix units, there is some commonality in their VIN numbers. I am puzzled by how this could be. The first portion of a VIN number relates to the ...

Re: Bus Observations 2023

Re the CB60 bodies, my understanding is that the CB60 body style made working on most rear mount engines almost impossible. Apparently mechanics would need to disassemble almost half the engine for even simple jobs. The CB60 Evo2 roofline, if you compare it, generally sits eight or nine inches highe...

Re: Bus Observations 2023

What’s with buses catching fire on the Harbour Bridge? This is the third one now in recent years. There was the northbound STA Willoughby Scania a few years back. A year or so later an ex Brissie Volvo B10M belonging to Sydney’s Amazing Coach Tours went up coming off the bridge southbound. That’s qu...

Re: Bus Observations 2023

The original Leyland Nationals were operated by the MTT in Hobart, the MMTB in Melbourne and the DCT in Canberra. Although radical in design and appearance, they were not a greatly loved bus to own. They came with a Leyland 510 turbo diesel engine that had a head that could not be separated from the...

Re: Bus Observations 2023

Umm, Linto63, whilst being loath to correct you 😜, I must point out that the Surfside/Kinetic depot in question is actually a couple of hundred metres within the NSW border, therefore making it Tweed Heads, NSW rather than Coolangatta (Qld).

Re: New Sydney and Outer Metro bus contracts (as from 2020)

Re the shortage of drivers, every man has his price. They might just need to dig deeper to attract new drivers and retain existing ones. The existing contractors trying to reduce the wages of current drivers, let alone employing new ones at lesser rates and conditions, I’m sure, does nothing for mor...

I remember fleet 443 being the first Busways Mercedes with the big front bumper fitted to it.

I don't recall whether all 0405s from there onward had them fitted.

The batch of Scania L94s did have them.

Re: Bus Observations 2023

It seems that a large three way swap has just occurred between Kingsgrove, Tempe and Leichhardt depots. According to the fleet lists, ten 2600 series Scania Bustechs have gone to Tempe, with four Volvo B12 euro 5s and five Volvo B7 Volgrens transferring from Tempe to Leichhardt. Nine Scania Gemilang...

...and what’s funny is that the fleet number on the roof is not the vehicles actual current fleet number, with this and several others having been renumbered into the 3800 series.
