Re: Inner West Light Rail observations

I've been told that what contributed to the Urbos cracking was this: no track maintenance. None. Zero. Zilch. Nada. If it was maintained the trams would've coped a lot better despite being fixed truck trams.

Re: Manly Ferry Services...

Then we should have a standard suburban set running around the rail system amongst normal services for those who want to ride it, a coupled P class set along the light rail lines and an OPD1 trundling along the bus routes. Well the F1 does run on the network now during many special events thanks to...

Re: CBD & South East Light Rail

The third option still has chance of happening I believe or at least it's the most feasible one of your demands. There is a scenario where they could run a few off peak services with single section Citadis trams and leave coupled ones for peak hours but I don't think they'll ever run uncoupled. And ...

Re: Inner West Light Rail observations

…. Well, thats that. Was secretly hoping Alstom would come along and say “what about, what if, we’ll give you an extra special deal, we’ll give you 4 new Citadis for IWLR AND sell you 12 new Citadis on top at a special rate to replace the existing CAF trams in lieu of us maintaining them” (…sound f...

Re: CBD & South East Light Rail

Sydney Tramway Museum has been uploading its "Shooting Through" history video to Youtube. This episode covers the Sydney south-eastern lines, including the lines now reinstated for CSELR. Note, by comparison, the general pace of the trams, including cornering speeds, and contemplate that ...

Re: CBD & South East Light Rail

Gosh, I feel for bus drivers being subjected to this patronising rubbish. So much for being an experienced professional driver who is capable of taking instruction on an informed adult level. I can see the same syndrome as with light rail drivers who are merely drones of the control room. Very like...

Re: CBD & South East Light Rail

The section between Kingsford and Maroubra is not a large passenger generator, so in effect they would be spending hundreds millions of dollars to save a few people around Maroubra Junction from changing at Kingsford. The line would not have the capacity to handle patronage increases from high rise...

Re: CBD & South East Light Rail

I still feel Alstom's modern day Citadis is a substantially better product than the 7 year old CAF Urbos running on the other line. I never liked the Urbos from the moment it entered service here, but thats quite in contrast to the Citadis. Much better window view, much softer lighting at night, be...

Re: CBD & South East Light Rail

Getting out of Rawson Place into George seems to be a bottleneck, as is the section north of Wynyard (Hunter to Margaret, then Bridge to Grosvenor). From my experiences, these can vary. Many times I've seen trams leave Wynyard and sail straight through to Bridge St and if they do stop, it's only fo...

And while I’ve got the opportunity to look back on past messages and also see what has been said in other groups by Tony. Again. I wanna say this: 80,000 people signing a petition against the proposed bus changes, out of approximately 900,000 people and growing who are living in the south east of Sy...

Re: New bus network arising from CSELR (L2/L3) opening

CBD&SELR has turned out to be an ill-conceived, badly planned, badly implemented dog and rightly so the government should get a kicking for it. I’ll agree that it’s been badly planned and implemented but I will call bull that it was ill-conceived dog. The intentions of building the line and bri...

Re: New bus network arising from CSELR (L2/L3) opening

Likewise I suspect modern light rail has seen it's time in the sun as cities sought high capacity, more environmentally friendly and quiet solutions. Cheaper electric buses will fulfil many of the objectives without the infrastructure cost. So why are many cities worldwide still continuing to build...

Re: New bus network arising from CSELR (L2/L3) opening

Labor members resolutely confirmed their party's anti tram attitude and I don't think we'll see a future Labor government introducing trams anywhere any time soon. Honestly I don't even see THIS government or any future Liberal governments introducing more trams either. Not since they've been sucke...

Re: New bus network arising from CSELR (L2/L3) opening

Why would you want to prolong even further the existing agony when there are alternatives that will do it much quicker? The only reason for extending L3 to Maroubra Jct is to connect with the proposed SE metro. With a bus interchange already established at Kingsford, it is pointless to create anoth...

Re: Parramatta light rail

I don't think it's worth speculating about future light rail routes. The mode has only few very specific and quite short distance applications in the Sydney context and in fact I think all the possibilities for it in Sydney have been already explored and implemented (either completed or in process)...

Re: CBD & South East Light Rail

I am so frustrated as anything right now. Because I just know that so many asshats are gonna try to blame all of today’s messes on the trams somehow even though it wasn’t even their fault, and this why they should’ve never been brought back etc. Accidents happen, but every nitpicking gunzel and keyb...

Re: CBD & South East Light Rail

I can't understand why they don't run the buses through those platforms already. It must be a political decision. It took a while for buses to use the Haymarket stop interchange but they're using it now so, in time I have no doubt buses will be using the interchanges soon. Maybe enquire with the re...

Re: CBD & South East Light Rail

Just waiting for our Lord and Saviour Howard Collins to change the culture of micromanagement in Transport so then tram operations can be more flexible, and maybe then every uptight guznel can...
