Re: NSW Railway Observations 2019
A novel track work configuration this weekend with only the locals operating and T9 running all stations in the inner west. For once the inner west doesn’t get shafted.

Re: NSW Railway Observations 2019
Unfortunately there is no more corridor width available for track amplification in the inner west because of intense urban development both sides of the corridor. Alternative solutions have to be found. Of the Bradfield-era reservations, the short stretch north of Sydenham still survives, the Main ...

Re: NSW Future Rail Plan - NWRL/Metro/Harbour Crossing
The crux of the metro vs ST issue really comes down to automation. These things need to be cheaper to run long term. The fact is that ST is too overstaffed and expensive to operate.

So a full train every 30 min or a 1/2 full one every 15 min. I know what I’d prefer.

Re: NSW Railway Observations - July to December 2018
The elephant in the room is that the operating costs of the existing heavy rail system are just too high for any government of any persuasion to be interested in investing a whole lot of extra into it. I’m of the understanding that the operating costs of the Metro are expected to be close to covered...

Re: NSW Future Rail Plan - NWRL/Metro/Harbour Crossing
I will say that I think that the Metro would have been better running along the Airport line to Revesby rather than the Bankstown line. However I understand why they did it this way. I still think that post 2030 the Airport line should be converted to Metro or at a minimum Single Deck trains. Probl...

It’s more complete than the previous rebrand, many stations have gone from 2 brands ago to the current one.

Re: NSW Railway Observations - July to December 2018
Wolli Creek, as with all the Airport Line stations, is very poorly designed with it's severely narrow platforms and excessive curve. That's privatisation for you. They don't give a stuff about long term planning, just about short term profit and they even failed on that score. A bunch of imbeciles....

Re: NSW Railway Observations - July to December 2018
There have been inner west (homebush) services running across the bridge to Hornsby, using flying crossovers to get to 16 at central.

$1.7 billion order for new Waratah trains signed
Indeed, it’s not straightforward comparing metro lines to a commuter railway. Having said that the displays could be sexier.

Re: Plastic bag ban and public transport
I imagine that a lot of the backlash is not so much about bags for shopping but the myriad other uses to which the bags are put after they get home, notably garbage but very many other uses too, as we all know. The line being pushed about them being "single-use" bags is complete bs, as is...

To give them credit, rightly or wrongly at least they have actually followed through in what they had proposed to do, unlike the previous govt.

http://www.lukefoley.com.au/labor_announces_top_transport_priority_accelerate_new_western_metro_rail_line_for_western_sydney I see that Sydney Metro West will be labor's top priority for rail development. Re: NSW Railway Observations - January to June 2018
Inner West trains are being transposed to skip Summer Hill, Lewisham, Petersham and Stanmore, but then they are stopping at Newtown and Macdonaldtown. Is there a crossover back to the locals between Stanmore and Newtown I don't know about? Trackwork today has all trains running on the local between...

Re: NSW Future Rail Plan - NWRL/Metro/Harbour Crossing
By far the biggest perceived benefit of the metro as it will stand for the govt is its favorable cost recovery when it opens, and lack of ongoing drain on the treasury purses.

The problem of course is the city circle, one can build as many tracks as one wants but they need somewhere to go.Liamena wrote:It does seem rather pointless that they built the 4 tracks and don't use them. But I only go there on weekends.

Re: 2017 Train & Bus timetable changes
T8 timetable modification if most probably due to the poor connection time between limited stops services and all stops services. I would suspect that another singular station will be added to the limited stops services between the City and Macarthur to aid better connections beteeen services. It i...
