Re: Timetable Changes 2024
So slowly the region 9 network is getting closer to what it was before the light rail. Whether the light rail should have been built is another discussion, but going back to having all buses proceed to Circular Quay when there are ample opportunities to change en-route to high frequency services is ...

A newsclip on the Custom Denning fire can be found on ABC News NSW's broadcast of 7 April starting at 14:40, available on iview (login required). Plenty of TfNSW liveried Elements about, presumably destined for Transit Systems. At 15:07 one of the 2009 built Quality bodied Cummins powered Volvo B7Rs...

Re: Bus Observations 2024
Was a stand alone lithium battery that caught fire at Custom Denning's St Marys factory. Contrary to the ill-informed observation' that the exclusion zone was established as a cover up, it was done so because of the intense heat generated that required 20 tonnes of sand to extinguish and at one stag...

Re: Bus Observations 2024
Even that isn't much of an issue in NSW since we don't have all-door boarding and all that buses have to do is pull in at 45 degrees like a taxi to ensure the front door is at the kerb! Articulated buses should be able to park flush to the kerb so that their rear doesn't protrude blocking the road ...

Re: Bus Observations 2024
Those deckers are supposed to be dedicated to B-line duty separate from the other buses. The goverment didn't spend ½ billion on the system only for the deckers to be commandeered for other work. The deckers are region 8 assets, the Easter Show services are operated as part of Keolis Downer's contr...

Re: Timetable Changes 2024
Possibly, but would not make any sense having U-Go operate a route that is wholly outside of its operating area. Unless routes 920 and 960 are reunited, can't see any benefit.

First of the Parramatta River Class has commenced trials. Appears similar to the River class but with outside seating at the stern rather than on the rooftop. Bet the crews won't miss having to deal with the idiots who don't get that they have to be seated.

Re: Canberra light rail: Development applications approved
Canberra Liberals' proposed public transport plan would see a busway replace light rail with locally built electric buses (ABC) While the route of the first light rail section made sense with Northbourne Avenue being a punish with its elongated traffic light phases, can never work out the need for ...

Re: Sydney Metro - Tallawong to Bankstown
There will be some curtailment / withdrawal of CDC services, mainly peak hour express services, the 607X and 610X will be retained. CDC will see only a slight reduction in the overall number of buses it operates in region 4.

Re: Bus Observations 2024

For the past couple of years, Windsor Bus Charters have supplemented Keolis Downer on route 1B, but were absent this year with KD using ...

In which case it would be more sensible for TfNSW to lease and then reallocate rather than the smoke and mirrors of having Transit Systems as the leasee.

Re: Bus Observations 2024
All NSW government buses have been leased since the 1970s. Vehicles in the private sector are leased, or on hire purchase finance, because all payments are tax deductable where as purchased assets need to be capitalised and depreciated, in the case of buses over 15 years.

Re: Bus Observations 2024
Buses are always leased, purchasing outright is an inefficient use of capital. The $30 million plus that would be needed to purchase these 60 buses outright is about what Kelsian pays out in dividends each year. If Transit Systems is currently operating charters with 40 year old buses that would be ...

Re: Bus Observations 2024
Hybrids are barely more environmentally friendly than diesels, given the amount of time they spend running on the latter. The last government came up with an ill thought out policy and the current one has continued with it. While all diesel buses pollute, current spec Euro VI buses are far less poll...

Re: Bus Observations 2024
The StationLink buses were and remain TfNSW assets. After the Chatswood - Epping shutdown concluded they were cascaded to CDC and Transdev's TfNSW route operations to replace older vehicles. The new buses may be Transit Systems assets, but it is unlikely that they will have shelled out somewhere nor...

Re: Bus Observations 2024

Given that maintenance of footpaths and street furniture is the responsibility of local council, and each one probably has its own standards as to how t...

Re: Bus Observations 2024
Timeframe likely to have been a major consideration. Had Transit Systems been able to commission the 50 Custom Denning Elements it has in store that would have largely provided the necessary number of buses, that presumably is not likely to happen requiring a plan B. TfNSW is stating that it has no ...
